I´m going against my lurking nature to post today.
Something bizarre happened.
I burned and player riddick, all fine, than i shut down my 360. When i tried to turn it on again, bam, 3rl. It´s a 97 no hdmi hitachi console. No working no way, error code 0021. k great. I opened it up, it was already with the rubber over the memories. (I live in a third world country and people only sell already modded 360s, tough i update my firmware myself)
Now, before i got to buy the torx 8 screwdriver, i tryed forcing the mainboard up, to see if that altered the memory disposition(or something, dumb idea), and it worked once or twice. so great, i thought. Than I bought the screwdriver, opened it up, the rubbers were there, I moved it, cleaned it up and... it didn´t worked.
I thought "damn, it had worked before when i pulled the mainboard up..." Than I tried "here goes nothing", held the mainboard with one hand in each side, applied pressure as to bent it just a little... and than it happened. When the mainboard is bent it works.
Anyone have a clue on what is going on? Thanks, I will probably tamper wildly with it before any reply but... any will be apreciated.

have you tried the penny trick ?? its for forcing better contact with the memory chips...

I got rubber forcing the memory chips... I suppose the pennyes would do the same as they are... right?
edit: I watched A video... I see now. Will try.
edit 2: I did it, with rubber pieces instead of pennies, it worked after I overheated it a little.
Now, is that a fact that the problem will return soon? Can anyone extimate how long do I have? And more important, running it with the case opened, with a fan blowing directly over it, will increase its lifetime? Thanks.

Today i played for 20 mins or so, turned it off, when turned it on again it rroded. Than I turnet the fan directly over the opened 360, whaited for a while, and than it worked.
Coincidence or is the fan over the opened xbox effective? I dont care that it is very impratical and ugly to have an opened xbox over my table with a fan blowing on it, as long as it works.

It could be effective, although I'm not really sure why it would be. Generally the RROD is because the chips have become unsettled and the xclamp fix forces them back down...don't know what the fan would have done except rapidly cooled the solder back to the chips(rapid cooling causes excessive shrinking, which could in theory do the trick).
I firmly believe in keeping my system as cool as I possible can, so if having a fan over it works, then I guess thats the way to go. You could wire in a cpu fan and mount it on the side of the box overtop of the heatsinks, that would help, and if done properly is aesthetically appealing too!

try loosening the screws, maybe to tight. Also, next time don't use rubbers, that could be messy....

I was reading about the "ultimate xclamp fix" where you have the metal plate, 4mm foam pads and all, and I believe thats what it fixes. The overtightening part that is. I was fixing one the other day that was being extremely troublesome, it would work fine, cut it off, and then it would RROD again. I got tired of it so I used a metal plate from a project box I had(happened to be the perfect size) and some craft foam I had and tried the "ultimate fix".
I had to torque the hell out of the screws to get the heatsinks down on the gpu and cpu, but it worked. I think that when you overtighten you warp the board and the foam pads and all give it support to stop it from warping when its tight, so you get less warping and a tighter fit.

The foam pads are there to apply pressure to the underside of the board "gently" this is to counter the presser caused by screwing the heatsinks down which can in turn warp the board in the opposite direction as the original problem. By giving equal pressure to both sides it will force the board straight.

Exactly what I was thinking, just spoken a bit clearer than me, :-).
It worked on his system, but mine works just fine without it.

Heres something you need to do that NO ONE is talking about
ONce there was a Youtube video of a guy who showe dcomparison of Xbox on & off
Once an xbox is ON the fans spin, once you turn it off the fans STOP(duh) but what sfunny is that teh cips (cpu / video) and really hot, if then the fans STOp spinning nothing heats the then hot chips so the TEMP rises for a good 10 min.
SO, from experiance any tiem I play for mor ethen 1 hour, I always go straight to the dashboard, it lets the fans run, the chips cool and system cool down big time, VS you just shutting the game off after playing an hour or so.
This will provide a LONG GEVITY to your system. Over time JUST shuting the system off warps your board and alot of other bad stuff.
So just go to dashboard after playign a game, let it cool for 10 min, grab a drink, take a leak or chill, but let it rest before you just shut it off.

most new systems go through a 15 sec shutdown process before shutting fans off

After extended play, I've had my fans run for as long as 10 minutes after I cut the system off.

I wasn't saying that wasn't a good tip, it is, just saying the fans dont immediately cut off.

Oh I have no doubt. I know the xbox creates extreme heat and can in itself warp the motherboards. For older Xbox's it is a very good idea to do so.
But like Belenos and I said, newer xbox's have a cool down phase that they automatically go into once you shut the system off. That is in place so you don't have to do it yourself.
I hadn't even realized mine did it until after I modded it. I had never paid attention to it before, but when I modded it and tested it I was paying extra attention and actually freaked out when I cut it off and the fan kept running. I thought I had screwed something up. Did a little investigating, found out they do it automatically now.
Score one for Microsoft!!!
