Okay so i have a benq with 1.51 already on it. But I wanted to get into the whole flashing thing.. anyways
MY chipset for sata is VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller.

got the 360 apart and hooked up to th emotherboard, and using power from the 360 itself. I have Vista 32 bit and installed the portio32 manually.
So when jungleflasher opens, it says no drive detected. So i tried dosflash32 1.7, and it gave me an error saying portio32.sys could not be installed even though it already is. So i tried running dosflash32 again but this time in administrative mode, and it loaded up, and recognized the drive. It said:
Port 0xB000
Man ID 0xC2
Name MAIC/Macroncx(MX25L2005)
Device: PBDS VAD6038-64930C
Type Serial with status 0x73
now here is the question, i didnt do anything fancy, the drive was closed, and dosflash says the status is 0x73? isnt that unlock/vendor mode? How can it be in vendor mode already when i havent done anything? and when i close dosflash, message at bottom says sending outro etc.. to set the drive back from vendor..
So i tried reading the firmware and it worked, it was able to allow me to save it.
Now one more question, could it be jungleflasher did not recognize the drive because I didnt run the program in administrative mode?

sorry for the long thread guys.

A BenQ drive with ix1.51, will automatically be recognized and in vendor mode after starting up DosFlash32. Right when DosFlash32 starts up, it will disable any DVD/CD drive, send Intros to any SATA ports, and then your BenQ will respond and be in vendor mode. Same thing would happen in JF after you start it up. Select your corresponding SATA port, Click Intro/ Device ID and it will respond with the Flash Chip properties and will also be in Vendor Mode (0x73).

Any Samsung or BenQ under ix1.5 will need to do the VCC trick. I believe DosFlash likes to send the "Magic 28 code", then Gerimia's method, and last, sending an Intro and have you power cycle (VCC).

Edit: If you are able to read the firmware, you should be able to write.

I believe Iriez has a DosFlash32/16 Tutorial.

Leerage, one more quick question for ya, seeing as this will be my first flash when 1.6 comes out. I was already able to read the fw from the drive and i saved it as orig.bin. So then i take that and load it with firmware toolbox 4.8, and copy the key from it, then load ix1.6 into firmware toolbox, paste that key in there and click save key, then go back to dosflash32 and write it?

I would try to go ahead and use Jungle Flasher all the way. Stay away from copying and pasting in firmware toolbox as your wont be copying over any serial data, only the key.

Load your original firmware in JF source and then load iXtreme firmware in the target. Then click spoof. This will copy over all the data (Inquiry, Identify, Key, and serial data).

Nice thing about the BenQ is that it supports Bad Flash recovery, so you can't brick your drive with a bad flash.

Since you were able to read the firmware with Jungle Flasher, I'm sure you will be able to write in JF.

If not, I can help you out with booting DosFlash16 or running Dosflash32 in Windows.

Did you install PortIO manually or use the automatic install. Either way as long as DosFlash32 can read your firmware, you will be good to go. Just remember, always use JF to spoof your firmware.

Manual install. Jungle Flasher wont detect the drive though, so thats the problem.
If I can get it to detect it, I just spoof it, then click on save to file?

Wait hold on, even if JF does not detect the drive, I can still spoof the fw, click on save to file, and just overwrite the ix1.6.bin and use that in dosflash?

Sorry I misread your reply earlier. :)

Since you are able to read in DosFlash32, you won't have to worry about getting the drive detected in JF. You can use JF just to spoof your firmware and then save the custom firmware. At that point you can use DosFlash32 to flash the custom firmware.

Once I spoof in JF and save it, does it matter what I name the new fw, or should i overwrite the 1.6 with the spoof?
Thanks for the help dude. I can finally flash my own 360 haha.

It won't matter what you name the firmware bin. Once you change the drop down menu in DosFlash32 to write, it will prompt you to find your firmware. With BenQ's you can overwrite iXtreme firmware on it, no need to restore to original. By default in JF, I believe it will name the bin file Benq_CFW.bin.

Edit: You could name the file Benq_ix16.bin
