Alright, I've been reading and I have a couple questions to throw at you.

First off, what all information does the xbox save about what you play, I know it saves what games you play but does it save all the info like the degree's(I know some run at 359 and can be a problem without 1.51) and other information that can get you banned?

If there is an older version of Extreme that allowed you to play games off of single layered discs, (and this is if question 1 is that it doesn't save all that info), could I buy a new drive off of e-bay, flash it with the older fw, and use it to play games that have no online value for me(like mirrors edge, chronicles of riddick, guitar hero metallica) and play it strictly offline without any problems?

AND, if I could do that, could I do an extreme modification to my xbox, putting in a switch that would cut power/sata signals to my iExtreme flashed drive and instead send it to the Extreme fw drive? So I could readily switch between the two for which games I'm wanting to play.

Reason why I'm asking is there are games I like, that I would like to create a backup for and play, but don't care to go online with. For those, it would be nice to not have to use my verbatim dl's and use a single layer disc so it would be cheaper.

I know I'm a cheap-skate but I can't help it, been laid off from 4 different jobs due to economy, and I can't afford to buy so many of the high dollar media.

if you play an unstealthed game on your xbox while offline or on it will take note of this and send it to MS so switching between the two drives would accomplish nothing. Sorry but you need to just either bite it and spend the money on the DL or play fewer games I guess. Sorry to hear of your employment problems.

Thats what I thought, that it would save the info about the games and send it in later. Just didn't know if it sent read angles and all that in or just the games. I suppose I could buy one of these RROD systems that people sell for $35-$50 and use the single layer fw on it?

The employment problems are what they are, its happening to everyone so I don't complain about it alot. Just gotta keep an eye on the spending, cut where I can. Got a new job starting next week, hopefully they won't be doing any laying off soon. Either way, going back to school for IT programming, when i get done with that might be able to find a stable job.

That could happen, but i am sceptical... if a huge backload of data from saving the game specs was sent to ms, it would be obvious in bandwidth usage. Also, where is this data being saved (if it's the hdd, couldn't you just connect another hdd when playing online?).

I'm probably wrong, but someone will have to prove it to me before i believe it.

AFAIK, the XBOX saves this data to the cache. It would not be a hugh amount of data, i would expect that it would only be a few MB in size so I doubt you would notice it on your usage.

You do know that you won't be able to burn hardley any 360 games to a single layer disc right? I think there are only 2 or 3 games that will fit on single layer DVDs. The single later support was fir people wanting to copy the original xbox games that wet smaller than 4.7 gigs. 99.0% of 360 games are 6+ gigs withno way possible of putting them on a single layer DVD.

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

Hmm, didn't really think about that. I just saw a couple old threads on the extreme fw allowing single layer discs, didn't even think about the size of games.

Well, it was worth asking. Thanks for your help everyone

I'm a newb when it comes to taking 360's apart, but where is the cache located (i'm assuming motherboard). If it's the hard drive, you could just remove the hdd when playing online and connect a new one... which basically destroys the theory that "you cannot get banned if you switch a hdd between a modded 360 and unmodded 360" which so many people believe

The cache is on the motherboard. If you ever notice, once you upgrade to NXE, even if you take your HDD off it still has the dashboard on it. Xbox stores all of that stuff on the cache on the motherboard I guess.
