Hey, I am currently connected to xbox live via an xbox 360 wireless adapter, connected wirelessly to a motorola sbg900 surfboard gateway. The console is about 35 ft from the gateway, with little interference via walls. I have cable broadband with 12gb monthly download limit for this connection (the bandwidth is just sufficient for my needs). The connection bearly ever lags for me, but i mostly have a red or yellow bar (and in left 4 dead it is frequently disconnecting me from the game)... also in cod 5/4 i can never host, which is frustrating.

I recently tried to connect my 360 to windows media centre, but i did not have much success, now sometimes when i first try to connect to xbox live (after turning off my gateway) it does not work, so i resort to testing the connection in dashboad, which usually gets it working.

Has anybody got any suggestions to make it work better? I have thought about running an ethernet cable to the xbox, but i'm thinking that it is quite far, and would not increase the signal dramatically.

From everyone I have talked to, the Wireless adapter should be a last resort. Used only if you absolutely cannot run a cable to it.

I myself have never used one so I don't know how well it works. There might be interference with it(modems run at 2.4 ghz in US, a lot of cordless and wireless stuff does too, so it could be that). Try changing channels on your router, it might help out.

You can go on Newegg.com and buy 50 ft ethernet cables for $3-4 USD. I have one running to my xbox and I rarely ever have connection problems.

Also, you could try getting an older router, flashing it with custom fw to use it to recieve instead of transmit. Again, I haven't done this, but you could google it and find something I'm sure.

Those are a few things you can do, search around the forum, its been asked before I'm sure. Might find something useful there.

Thanks for the reply

I've decided to run a ethernet cable to my 360, does anybody know what sort is best (i found a cat 6 RJ-45 ethernet cable here http://cgi.ebay.com.au/15m-RJ45-High-Per...%3A1%7C294%3A50 it seems that this is the best).

I suppose some are better than others, but they all do what they are suppose to do. I use two 50 ft Ethernet cables I bought for $2.59 each off of newegg and I have a perfect connection almost all the time. No lag or anything.
