I have two external hard drives. One is usb powered and the other is outlet powered. On the outlet powered external hard drive i have it formatted for the wii with all of my wii games so that i can use it with the usb loader (works perfect by the way). But when i use WBFS 2.2 to extract the iso onto my second external hard drive that is formatted for windows, it extracts the file as a totally differnt size as what shows up on my wii formated hd. So then once the iso is extracted onto the windows formatted hd i use image burn to put the files onto a dvd (for my brothers wii) and it backup launcher channel loads the game, shows the white warning screen, then the screen flashes and it stays stuck on a black screen.

But............If i extract the same iso from the wii formatted hd onto the desktop of my laptop it extracts it as 4.37gb and i use the same method described above (image burn) to transfer the file to a dvd-r and it works. I know it sounds complicated but what do you guys think is going on? Why does it transfer the file onto my usb powered, window formatted drive as a differnt size and doesnt work when i burn it off of that drive?

is your wii harddrive FAT32 and your windows NTSF or FAT?

As for the ISO's are these downloaded or ripped from actual wii games.
What region?
Are you using brickblocker or regionfree patches?

What is the firmware on your brother wii, what loaders is he using?

I have found that if one backup loader dosent work use another, i have 3 that i use and have yet to find something i cant load.

Doesn't sound like a Wii issue if ripping it to PC works fine but ripping it to the other USB HDD doesn't.

Could be a FAT format issue. Make sure the windows formated USB HDD is formated NTFS not FAT32.

Larry you mean NTSF? I just check what the format was on the USB powered hard drive and its FAT32. So i currently have my other computer formatting that drive to NTFS. But why would the format of the drive cause a differnet rip size??

Is this still on the wii topic or should i post it somewhere else?

Also how many post do i need to change my status from junior member?

hmmmmm i think i have the answer after some searching..... this is what i got from another website.

NTFS
1)allows access local to w2k,w2k3,XP,win NT4 with SP4 & later may get access for somefile.
2)Maximum size of partition is 2 Terabytes & more.
3)Maximum File size is upto 16TB.
4)File & folder Encryption is possible only in NTFS.
FAT 32
1)Fat 32 Allows access to win 95,98,win millenium,win2k,xp on local partition.
2)Maximum size of partition is upto 2 TB.
3)Maximum File size is upto 4 GB.
4)File & folder Encryption is not possible.

No wonder most all the games were only 3.98GB, because fat32 maximum file size is up to 4gb. Hopefully i dont get in trouble for posting this in the wii section. But it is wii related because if you plan on buying an external hard drive to load all your wii games on and keep it formatted for windows (not for USB Loader) then this info will be of big help!

Yeah i meant to say NTFS. Changed my above reply to NTFS in case others come across this thread and need help.

This is considered Wii related since the issue you where having was Wii ISO size related.

But yes that is why the size difference was there. FAT32 only supports up to 4GB. This is actually a more common issue then you would think. Not only in the Consoles forums but DVD backup forum as well.

larry.....That solved the problem. Since my windows hd was fat32 it wouldnt load anything bigger then 4gb. I formatted it to NTSF and used WBFS to extract the file onto that hd and it gave me the proper size this time! Thanks!

Why is it that when i transfer a 4.37gb game from my ntsf hard drive to my wbfs hard drive it only transfers the actual game so the file is alot smaller. I know that it was meant to save space but why is it that when i do the reverse and extract the file off of wbfs and back onto my ntsf hard drive it brings it back to 4.37gb, where does it get the rest of the gb's from? Internet?

when in WBFS the garbage or fillers are remove so only data, in NTFS fillers are put in so that it will be exactly us 4.3Gig when burned to disk,.. like the Wii sport it just only 500 mb but when in NTFS it will 4.3gig. just imagine how big the dummy files is.
