Problem playing xbox 360 games

A while back I took a break from playing my 360 so I haven't really kept up to date with stuff.
However recently I decided to get back into it again but any game I seem to burn just doesnt work (the new wolverine game for example, the 360 seems to think its a dvd?!). I use imgburn which is the newest version, I also use verbatim +DL discs and burn at 2.4x , it has always worked in the past but it isn't anymore.
After doing some research i'm finding out about some new updates and something to do with wave 3 games and tbh i'm quite confused as I've not really kept up-to-date.
I have a feeling I should download these new update things i'm reading about however I think in order to do this i'm going to have to know what mod chip was used on my 360 and the problem is I don't know...I got it chipped a couple years back and the shop tht did it didn't tell me the type of chip and it's highly unlikely the shop is still in business.
So i was wondering if anyone could help me and if these updates i'm hearing about don't consider the type of chip.

are you sure they chipped it cause flashing the firmware is the preferred method

can you open the box if you know it is chipped, and provide us a pic? If it is chipped, it might be a nme.
