BlackBerry outsold iPhone in Q1

article published on 4 May, 2009

The Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry Curve has outsold the Apple iPhone in the Q1 2009, according to NPD figures. NPD analyst Ross Rubin added that the Curve was helped by its widespread availability (its available through Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon) and Verizon's recent BOGO on the phone. Overall, the Curve came out on top, while the iPhone slipped to second and the touchscreen ... [ read the full article ]

Hopefully apple realizes that it would be best if they allowed other carriers sell the iphone.

I could never understand the success of the iphone with the restrictions and the rediculous price (600.00 when it first came out). People stood in long lines to buy this at $600.00. I don't get it.

Of course, Apples reign is probably over now because there are cheaper and less restricted options now.

It's the same thing that happened to the Apple Computers. They made an innovative device and locked it down and treated their customers like criminals. The rest of the world coppied it until they got something close (windows 3.1) and Microsoft has never looked back.

Now, they have the Iphone/Itouch. It's innovative and good. But they treat their customers like criminals. Someone else is comming along, figures out what makes the Iphone so "good" coppies it and eventually will overtake them and leave Apple in the dust.

Maybe it might be time to rethink that business model.

Because most iPhone users simply dont care about all the restrictions and the price because it so cool and trendy to own one.

Just curious what iphone restrictions are we referring too that no other phone has besides network(yes network is a big restriction). These reports always make me laugh of course Black Berry sold more when they are fire selling them and when every one knows there is a new iphone with new software coming why would I buy the older device. Also interesting to note selling more did not generate a number worth mentioning for profit. Once the new iphone is released they will come out with another report IPHONE so more then RIM in Q3 & Q4 when every body who wants a device already owns don't sales start to decline just curious.

You only need a small group of committed suckers, and they will carry you a long way.

This is something akin to people lining up for over 24 hours and more to buy US$ 49/= upgrade their Win 98 to WinMe, probably the worst windows ever !!!!

I am not surprised Americans are in a deep hole with their outstandings on credit cards.

"Bragging rights" is a universal phenomenon. My brother in law owns an iPhone but can't do anything more than simple telephonic communication. Has a 52" 1080p LCD TV with 5.1 home theater sound system but watches only standard letterbox format tv news stretched to fill the TV's screen. Neither he nor anyone else in his family would be able play an HD dvd at proper display resolution if their life depended on it.

But then how else would he show off his money?

Some people buy an expensive house in a gated community with a pool and gym, but they don't use the facilities...
