I have read alot of post on here but not found a answer to this.
My wii is running firmware v3.3E with homebrew wii gator etc all working fine, will it still work if i upgrade to 4 or not?

I also read somewhere there is no games that even use 4 firmware yet for a while so would it be worth upgrading to 4 and is there any games that use 3.4 firmware and will the homebrew/wii gator will work if i update it to 3.4 or 4 from a game disk?

I am only asking this i have not come across a game yet has asked me to update but would be nice to know if i find a one if there is any.

As long as you have the Homebrew Channel and a cIOS installed you should be good to go.

WiiGator and USB Loader work perfectly fine on 4.0 firmware.

An added bonus that 4.0 gives is use of larger SD Cards (up to 32GB) and it also lets you move VC/WiiWare games to SD Card and boot them from there.

I would recommend not moving any homebrew apps (like Homebrew Channel) to SD Card. Leave them on the system memory if you update to 4.0 firmware.

Also do not delete the Homebrew Channel from the system since the TP hack is 100% blocked on 4.0 firmware. There will be no way at this time to reinstall the Homebrew Channel back onto your system.

HERE is a little guide I created. Toward the bottom of the guide I have info on how to update to 4.0 firmware.
