I'm planning on plugging my Xbox 360 into my monitor, just like I'm doing with my PS3. That is, I use an HDMI cable for the video, and component cables for the audio.
However, after researching a bit online, I found out that the way the 360 cable is constructed, you can't plug in both at the same time.
I know the cheapest method is to just pry off the plastic casing, but from the looks of it, it's a rather tight fit, and both cables look like they're about to fall out. The thing is, I'll probably be switching the HDMI cable between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 on a regular basis, and with the way everything looks, I wouldn't be comfortable messing with the connections too often.
I read that getting a slimmer cable is another solution, and was wondering if anyone has experience with the following:
I don't want to use Microsoft's adapters since they cost ~$50.
Sorry that this may sound like whining, I'm willing to just take off the plastic casing and deal with it, I'm just seeing if there's a different way around it.
If anyone has any opinions, or alternatives (maybe another kind of cable), I'd really appreciate hearing them. Thanks in advance.
well i have experience with removing the plastic shell and forcing both in... you mentioned them falling out and its quite the opposite... they are both jammed very tight with no way of falling out.
anyways yes i don't recommend that way if you can afford another option. the option i went with was one of the knock-off optical audio adapaters off of ebay. they are identical to the microsoft ones but they don't cost nearly $50... more like $12-15
they have both optical and RCA audio output ... even if you don't use the optical its a nice thing to have in case ya want it in the future. i use the optical out to my receiver and its very very good with surround sound.
Alright, I ordered one of the knock offs, and now I'm getting the other cables I need from monoprice.
I did something similar with my PS3, except the cables were male, so I just used an RCA to 3.5mm converter (F to M) with a coupler (F to F) so I could hook up my computer speakers.
However, the Xbox 360 uses female ports for the RCA cables, so I was wondering if I just need something like this:
