I have a Liteon drive and i purchased the CK3 + probe to extract the key ...
I've tried countless times but never got anything but ZEROS... I even bought the new via pci card, tried both usb and serial on ck3, tried as much possible tutorials but no luck ...
Then i decided i will try to solder the r707 bridge to avoid using the probe, hoping that i would get the better results...
Unfortunately, my soldering skills were not as good as I'd hoped so i ended up soldering and then desoldering the r707 and r708 points, but after i desolder it, the metal points melted away ....
Now i get no response from the probe when i try it on the r707 hole, or the points... (sorry for crappy explanation, not from a english speakin country)

The drive works fine on the xbox, playing original games, so i guess it is not hopeless...

Could anyone give me any tips on how to fix this and finally extract the key from the drive, maybe with some photos showing what I have to do... I figure at least couple of ppl had this problem...

Thanks a lot in advance!

Would you be able to provide a pic of the Lite-ON board?

You can also probe from underneath the board. The r707 point that is.

I know you said your soldeing skills are low, but if you still have the SMD's you could always try to solder them back on and see if it works then. If not, you can always try PS2Menace idea and probe it from under the board. There should only be 4 or 5 screws holding the board down.

Just tried it: the probe doesn't light up even from the back of the board on the r707 ... :(

You need to solder those traces so that they connect to he copper part at the end, near the r707 and r708 holes. Don't bridge them together.

And maybe the probe's led is burnt out. You can still try to dump the key after soldering the points back on.

Also of note, I get better results when I lie the probe down over r707 connecting the 2 "solder balls"

Edit - I could probaly dump it for you if you wanted to pay for shipping to and from GA.

just thought i would say the reason that you "melted" the 2 metal points is that fact that u are using a sub standard soldering iron that just get wayyyy to hot for the purpose of solder circuit boards the soldering iron that i use is a weller profesion series that allows me to select the soldering iron temp that i need to use the only downside is the price of the stations £100 + but it whats needed if you indend to do a decent job
