Hi.ive just bought a console solely for the purpose of flashing and selling on to a friend.it had never been opened before and the warranty sticker intact.the drive itself is a samsung ms25.i made sure the console read originals before i hooked it up to my pc.that went fine.so anyway, upon reading the firmware the only key ive been able to extract is multiple 000000's.i haven't attempted to flash as im aware this key is wrong.i put the console back together and now get the error E65.ive tried iprep and even older versions of jungleflasher but no joy.has anyone got any input on this problem please.regards craig

E65: DVD Drive Error.... DVD Timeout, Wrong firmware, dvd is without f/w chip, etc. This can also be caused by the tray not being fully closed on boot.

You sure you didn't kill the firmware? Sounds like it doesn't have any. I'd say at this point, flash it.

Is it in vendor mode? Use JF and flash with iextreme. Did it work before you started this? Do you have the orginial key?

All looks good to me in that log. Should be fine to write. Not sure what the "0s" are but what choice do you have? At least you have the orginal, so I'd say flash it and see what happens. No need to load a source since you're not spoofing to a different drive. Just hit write let JF load the firmware.

im just going to keep the drive and erase it and use it in the next console i buy and refurbish and keep the other bits as spares.i only paid £25($38) for it.its a shame because for a 3 yar old console it was in good condition.onto the next project then.thanks for all your help everyone.

You know what that looks like, it looks like maybe the previous owner may of had dvd drive problems before and thought maybe he could fix it himself. He may have bought a new drive (which they all come with a blank key) and just dropped it in not knowing that the key needed to be flashed.

What's the mfr. date on the back sticker?

the console had never been opened before.thats why i cant understand no matter how many times i extract the key i keep getting multiple 000000's.ive tried over 20 times now.as ive got another console requiring a replacement drive im just going to put the drive in that.it would cost me exactly the same price to buy a new drive as i paid for the console so im not losing money.plus you never know when you may need spare 360 parts.

If you're not the original owner of the console, there's no way to know if the console hasn't been opened. Using a hairdryer, a 360 warranty sticker (old and new style) can EASILY be removed and kept in perfect condition. Also, it's possible to purchase new warranty stickers.

One thing I do when looking at 360's is I'll pop off the faceplate and look closely at the silver tape holding the drive to the tray. When MS puts it on it's nice and smooth. When someone has removed the drive and reinstalled it, that tape gets wrinkled when it's peeled off and reapplied. They can get those wrinkles mostly smoothed out... but not completely.

And still, even that doesn't mean the console hasn't been opened.

I'm not trying to debate the validity of your console or anything 8) I'm just throwing this info out there to keep in mind.

The reason I asked about the mfr. date is that you can do a partial check and get an idea if that drive belongs in that console or not. You said the console didn't appear to be too old, right? The ms25 is one of the very first drives used and was quickly replaced by the ms28. If you have a newer console with an ancient drive, that's a big flag.

Odd debate.. the drive was working so I guess as it arrived it must have had the right key in it.

I don't (and wouldn't) use that jungleflasher thing.. mtkflash and xsam360 is my method... but I have also seen a ms25 drive just die while reading.. it will flash correctly but always e65.. regardless of which key (more than 1 360 around)

I think sometimes the board just dies.
