Vizio now leader in LCD market share

article published on 9 May, 2009

According to new data from iSuppli, the HDTV maker Vizio has now become the leading North American LCD maker, taking the spot from Samsung. For the Q1 2009 ended March 31st, the company's market share jumped from 13.8 percent last quarter to 21.6 percent. Samsung's market share only dropped slightly, but enough to move it to second place, at 19.9 percent. iSuppli says Vizio's success ... [ read the full article ]

When i hear the word Vizio i think cheap quality, and yes i did have one before really reading up on LCD's and Plasmas.

Well the one i had was a Plasma, and it worked fine for maybe 2-3 years, then it went to hell, Tons of Burnt in picture frames, One of the colors died out... so when we happened to watch The final ship battle scene in Pirates of The Caribbean 3 the only colors we saw were purple and green, the water was green and the sky was purple.

I'll stick with Samsung from now on, they seem to have the best Contrast Ratio, and newest features (120Hz, 1 GB Memory built in (Luxia Samsungs) and Internet connection ports) that most others are just coming out with

Vizio makes low to mid range products you have to research the item to make sure its the qaulity/price you want.

All in all not to bad since their a US based company.

I have a Vizio 32 inch Lcd that I have been using for a computer monitor for about 3 years now.I use if for alot of photo editing and I play online games, I have had no problems with it. I work for a retailer that sells both Samsung and Vizio and there were burn in issues with both. I think the technology has been improved on all tv's since the first debut. And let me add to this post if you think you can pause a video game/movie for long periods of time with Lcd/Plasma tv then you deserve to get burn in.

Funny thing is your response is total bullcrap. I get burn in with my Vizio just by watching regular channels with logos like "MSNBC" is freakin burned in on the TV in the bottom right corner. So it's not just games that burn in you know, it's most images that are there for a few seconds. Vizio sucks plain and simple!!

BUT... your post is a moot point to the article, since LCD do not suffer from burn-in!

I personally own 2 Vizios and they work great. I did my research ahead of time and found it was not worth the few extra hundred dollars to lose inches of screen just to have a Sony badge on my product!

Vizio LCD lines are good quality,

Vizio LCD emphasized on what you put in is what you get out, meaning there Onboard controller is little more than an on off circuit.

if you put a vizio and a samsung side by side and disabled samsungs advanced Onboard controller you would notice little difference in the picture quality.

Plasma is a dying technology it had a good run, it had major draw backs LCD not so Much. Plasma would much better be suited in a noisy industrial environment than lcd ever would.

LCD are cheap to manufacture, and are treated like a tv, where as Plasma Reminds me of an RPTV's high maintenance, Color calibration over its lifespan, replacements of plasma filters, terrible burn in.

Plasma did have a vibrant picture.

When I checked on a Vizio LCD/Plasma TV a while back ago in a local Costco, there was a difference with the LCDs, in particular when I compared it with a Panasonic and Samsung that I saw. Keep in mind that most Vizios don't have many of the bells and whistles of the bigger brothers, but even then its a decent LCD, mainly for the bedroom. I'm sticking however to a 26" Samsung or LG LCD, preferably cause I like those brands.

FYI: Vizio no longer makes plasmas.

Also, trying to make comparisons of TV's in store is near impossible, since the content may not be the same and the TV's are set with different default color configurations.

Fgamer, I didn't say it was just from playing video games, that just happens to be the most common with pausing and the like. Yes you will get burn in from the stations that logo the screen in a fixed postion such as MSNBC but all Plasma suffer from that some more then others I do agree.

To SProdigy, I guess I should clarify on an LCD tv it is not called burn-in it is called frozen pixels and YES it happens it can be repaired most of the time but NOT always. I was attempting to keep my post short and in doing so hoped you would make the distinction......my bad.

I have had my Vizio for 3 years now, 42' LCD. It has been running great, I have my xbox hooked up to it using XBMC set to 720p and looks great. I have had NO problems what so ever. I also have my computer hooked up to it via VGA and also is great. I recently went with a friend to purchase the Vizio 47' XVT model, he bought 2 of them. They are by far the best vaulue for money. 120hz also, Xbox 360 looks great on it especially GOW2. All you people hating on Vizio didnt do your research before hand and most likley got the lower end models. Not only that, most of you probably have Plasma models. Perhaps their plasma models arent that great I dont have one so I cant judge but the image burn you get from plasma sucks in general I hate it and I wouldnt judge a company on that since almost ALL companies plasma screens do the same image burn shit.

Yes Samsung is the top at the moment but Vizio is almost on par, the XVT models show a great image and are at 120hz. They are already working on their 240hz models and im sure it will be alot cheaper price than Samsung. Get yourselves the LCD versions and stop wasting your time with plasma. Yes plasma has better blacks but now with these new LED models coming out plasma will meet its match soon.
I even have a friend with an expensive plasma made by Samsung that has terrible image burn and ghosting.

I run a website where I sell service manuals. I won't mention it here 'cause I don't want to be accused of spamming, but I have 2000 Sony TV manuals and 30 Vizio TV manuals. I sell far more of the Vizio manuals than anything else.

Just stopped by Costco and Sams Club this weekend (June 7). Amazingly the Samsung, Sony and Magnavox 32 and 42" LCD sets were about the same price as Vizio LCD. I am not sure where some of you are shopping. Finally looks like name brands are getting aggressive on pricing. There happened to be several Samsung tv's next to the Vizio LCD sets. The new Vizio LCD sets looked like garbage. The Vizio sets appeared washed out looking compared to almost every other brand at both stores. Like a previous poster said, you get what you pay for. Vizio also has horrible looking designs.

I was also surprised how good the Magnavox sets looked, blew Vizio away and some were a few bucks less. Who makes them anyway ? Also saw several Vizios in the "returns" area. When I buy a new LCD TV it won't be a Vizio !
