This does work for 3.4 and down, but HBC Installer has not been configured for 4.0 yet. Yes, in theory if you had a WAD on the HomeBrew Channel you could load it with WAD Installer and install the HBC that way. But, you need cIOS to use WAD Manager. Getting a WAD of the HBC would be as simple as using Waninoko WAD Extractor and extracting the HBC as a WAD. I might test it, but if somebody wants to try that method and report back that would be great.

I titled this as installing on 4.0 because I "thought" it would work because I got the installer to boot. I didn't realize till after I posted this that a new version of HBC Installer would have to be released for 4.0. My mistake...

I have seen a few with your issue. But they ended up fixing everything by using this guide HERE. All the guide is doing is downgrading the IOS and installing a custom version that doesn't block homebrew.

Your not actually downgrading the firmware version. You will still be on 4.0 and have all the options of 4.0 firmware and homebrew itself.

So you either have a choice. Don't install HBC or try installing it by using the above link.

Larry, would you use that same guide on 3.4 or earlier if you don't want to use the TP hack?

Haven't tried it and would probably use TP hack or update to 4.0 and then use the guide I linked to if I had a 3.4 system and the bannerbomb didn't work.

You can't get bannerbomb to work on the system? Have you tried all the version as well re-format the SD card?

I am doing one tonight but was just doing some homework a head of time. I'll let you know if it does work on pre 4.0

http://www.mediafire.com/file/zn2qtgmdzf...in%20folder.rar

Can anyone answer another question for me.

Some one says they've got homebrew channel to install using this set up on there sd card>

http://www.mediafire.com/file/zn2qtgmdzf...in%20folder.rar

Basically they have wad manager as the boot.dol file.

and then HomebrewChannel.wad on there.

So my question is.... Does bannerbomb work using wadmanager.

and is this the same as downgrading....

and Is using this wad file, changing the IOS?

Thanks in advance

You can try it but I doubt it will work on a virgin 4.0 Wii. WAD file instillation has been blocked since the OCT 23rd 3.3 update. In order to bypass this limitation you need to downgrade IOS35 and patch it to allow WAD file installation again.

Bannerbomb will probably run WAD Manager but you will probably get the ret-/ticket error again when installing the HBC using WAD Manager.

hi guys a big thank you first of all,but i have two further questions.
1. the first part worked like a charm, back ups playing no problem, but on the further steps when i tried to load CIOSv10 i got the error (Ret=-1) could you tell me exactly where i put the following
files for the further steps.
IOS60.WAD
CIOSV10
IOS DOWNGRADER

2. will this method work on a unmodified wii that was updated from 3.4 to 4.0?

many thanks

@parley

cIOS36_rev10 has 2 options for installation. WAD Install and WiFi install. If you choose WAD install then you need to have IOS36-64-v1042.wad at the root of the SD card. If you don't then you will get the ret- error. Or you can choose Network Install which will download the needed files via WiFi.

@gameover9

I prefer cIOS36_rev9 myself. Some games seem to have issues with rev10. But that is your choice. If you want to use the USB mic then of course you need to install rev8.

Cool. Probably stick with rev8, don't want this box coming back.
