lol, try buying stuff off ebay over here... like $1 aus dollar buys like 77 us cents... gets really annoying when you're buying something for $300 us... back in the 70's and 80's the aus dollar was worth like $1.20 us
With the laggy xbox live, it's not that the connection is laggy (i bearly ever experience lag), but it's just the frequent disconnection from games... left 4 dead is really annoying. In a few other cities with the same isp and same plan, they can get 30mb/s dl and 1mb/s ul, australia is supposed to be getting a totally new broadband network in the next 3-5 years, so hopefully that happens
I know about ridiculous prices in AU. The guitarist in my band moved there about a year ago. He says a pack of guitar strings is $18AU over there! Madness....
So yeah I hope you can fix this problem and I hope the new broadband system gets introduced soon.
I would reccommend getting a new isp, Telstra may have the most coverage in Australia but they charge almost double what the other companies charge and they have lots of hidden charges like the upload cap. If your not locked into a plan try one of the other companies around brisbane which have good plans from 50 bucks

Telstra is the only company with cable broadband in my area, if i switch to another company then i will have to go to adsl, which i would prefer not to do. Tpg can go through telstra's cables, but i don't know if it's any cheaper. I'm trying to get phone through the internet, so when i get that up and running i will divert all the money spent on phone bills to a better internet connection.
PS, i live in moreton bay, can you suggest a better plan?
As far as I know TPG service is actually very good, like I said I believe their current deals are about half the cost as Telstra and would easily be able to accomadate VoIP.
I'm in Brisbane (Nimbin :) at the moment) so not sure of the service providers in the Bay, possibly try Dodo too as their rates are decent for the speeds offered.
