I ordered some blue LEDs, and to my surprise when I open the box they were all 5mm instead of 3mm. I wanted a modded Wiimote for myself, so I improvised and got amazing results with the 5mm with new placements not seen in the other tutorials.

I started with the Nunchuck, seeing the LED was to big to fit under the analog stick... But I also realized that since these things are bigger, they are brighter! I solder the LED in and messed around until I found a good resting place for the LED.

I took electric tap and covered the solder points and used it to hold the LED in place. Here is a pic with the LED on uncovered.

After I put the top on I noticed the LED was bleeding through really, really bad. So I thought, why not have some fun with it. I covered the top with black tape and colored in the corners with black sharpie. I then got this design and was very pleased.

I then moved on to the Wiimote. The LED was to big to fit in the B button, and was to big to fit next to the A... Then I saw a corner of hope! I solder in the LED making sure to leave a decent length of wire to work with.

I then taped up my chosen corner (You could use the opposite side as well) and bent the wires so the LED would fall in the corner when I laid the board back down.

It was a little hard to lay the board back down because of the tape, but everything fit tight and the way it was supposed to. When I closed the Wiimote up, I saw some places I missed with the tape... But I'm not picky so I just left them, and when I put my rubber casing over the Wiimote you can barely tell.

Wiimote and Nunchuk together.

Besides the uncovered spots on the Wiimote this turn out very well for having oversized LEDs.

Please comment, this is my first Wiimote mod and I had to improvise it.

It looks pretty nice, or at least from what I can tell from the pictures. Shining blue is definitely the Wii's color.

Even though it should have been obvious from the first picture somehow I got the impression that you had closed it back in the second picture and that it was a transparent nunchuk case.

I am surprised at how well the B button on the Wii remote shines.
My favorite place that the nunchuk is shining is definitely in the area surrounding the joystick.

How long did this take?

And lol at "hope to at least get one reply"

Doesn't seem like much discussion goes on here.

Thanks for the reply! It actually took all of 5 minutes to get the Wiimote and Nunchuck apart and get the LEDs soldered in, but took a little longer to find out where to put them.

I knew the Nunchuck LED was to big to go under the joystick and was to big to go near the front of the Nunchuck. I know the plastic in the joystick is very thin, so I knew putting it far back would still allow it to shine. It took about 10 minutes to find a place for the Nunchuck LED to rest and to tape it in. The place I put it is about the only place I could find. It's not getting crushed by the case, it's not under the joystick, and it's not in the way of the screw hole.

Wiimote... I thought I would never find a place. The reason I used that corner, was after examining the layout of the board and case, I noticed nothing snapped into that corner. So I put the LED there and held it with some scotch tape and closed it up. I looked for the places where it was bleeding through, marked it with a sharpie, and put black tape over it. I wish I would have noticed the once small place it is coming through at, but it doesn't bother me that much.

Total time, I would say... 15 minutes for Nunchuck, and 20 minutes for Wiimote. Which, since I know were to put these things now, if I was given large LEDs and told to do this project again it would take about 10 minute total.

It's a really easy fun mod to do, and I think it makes your electronics more personal when you do nifty stuff to it.
