sorry in advance for the long post, just want to make clear what i tried already.
i tried for 3 hours last night and cant get slax to boot. ive got windows vista 64bit, nvidia chipset, 4 sata connectors on the motherboard, and my xbox with a hitachi 78. i downloaded slax 2.1 and burned to disc with imgburn. i went into bios and set the dvd to boot first. i restart the computer andturn the 360 on. i get a lot of text, no cloverleaf. eventually it times out and tries to load from usb. then i get an error along the lines of: ... this should never happen. restart your computer by pressing ctrl, alt, delete. that does nothing, but anyway, i ajust the timing of turning the xbox on, same thing. i switch sata connections on the mobo, except the one the hd is connected to. same thing.i was going to flash with toolbox, but cant get my 360 into mode b. i no u arent to jump the power connecor on this drive. anyone got some help for this noob?

I had the same problem doing a friends drive. I ended up going to an older version of Slax that I got off xbins. Once I popped that in worked. Just something you might want to try.

Use Jungle Flasher to get the drive into Mode-B. No need for booting slax when you can do it in Jungle Flasher.
Edit- Whoops, looks like someone already posted that. Nevermind then. :)

You will need to install PortIO. It is included with JF.

PortIO won't work on any 64 bit OS. Will need to be 32 bit.
I recommend WinXP 32bit. Most of the programs are designed with that OS in mind.
Edit: I'm sorry I didn't catch that in your original post about the 64bit OS.

If you can use a computer with a 32bit OS, you will be able to flash. I know people who use Vista 32bit to flash. Personally, I use WinXP.
