it says in the letter
dear mr *********
It has been brought to out attention that someone at your address has purchased and may be using an unauthorised set-top box
when i phone vir+in he say found out through paypal

They still have no proof that you are using one though. Just because it is in your possession doesn't mean that you are using it.

Also, PayPal wouldn't release information on what you purchased without a court order. I'd say they're lying.

they cant get that info from paypal and you can own a box and use it but only for fta so tell them to take a fly f***

Just to let ye know I got same letter from vir+in today aswell.
I havnt rang em yet though

Wondering how they got the info or is it just guesswork....

just phone vir+in again and he say PayPal release the information and it is in ur teams and conditions with paypal for then to give the
information out

Something sounds wrong with this, can't see this meeting the requirements of the Data Protection Act. PP can't just hand over your personal information to anyone unless there is a strong possibility that an illegal act is being carried out (and even then I think the cops or an order from a court would have to be involved). All of these boxes are legally available, it is the connection to a cable providers nextwork that is the illegal act, this cannot be automatically presumed as you could have yours connected to a FTA network. Have you called PP to query this?

some one you know may have made up the letter and sent it to you

maby a "FAKE LETTER"

best thing to do is forget about it

and if you get a knock at the door always ask "WHO IS IT"

and have the box under your arm and be perpared to "RUN OUT THE BACK DOOR"

im not takin the piss.. i wound n't like to get this letter either..

just wonderin if anythin happens once u receive letter as some date back to nov 2008 as seen in link above???

Wasn't one of the main retailers busted in UK and all their accounts were checked over so I read a good while ago.

There's no way they got that info from paypal anyway. It came from the retailer saying a payment came in from you.

I highly doubt that PayPal would release this information, although it is possible. Virgin aren't listed as one of the parties that they disclose information to though ;)

If fleabay and paypal were working together then it would be the seller getting busted not the buyer.. it isn't illegal to buy one of these boxes pre-flashed.. but it is illegal to sell them in that condition.

paypal and ebay are both guilty of receiving money from the handling/advertising and offering for sale of illegal items in that case
hahahahahahahaha.. got 'em bang to rights there.

Just another thing.. IF paypal have given out private financial details to another party without a court order demanding they doi they have broken a clause in the finance act.. "all private transactions between individuals and business are confidential unless the same records are requested by police or government fraud investigators in the pursuance of investigating criminal activities or fraud. In most cases a court order will be required before any details of transactions can be given to any other party"

Tell vi+rin to stick it where the sun don't shine.
