ok so, my xbox 360 lite on drive broke. the thing that broke is the chip that stores firmware info and that matches something in the 360 alowing you to play games. so i bort a new drive (benq) with no firmware installed. so i install iextreme firmware using jungle flasher. my problem being that when i try to play games it just says to play disk please put it in an xbox 360 console, because the chip dont match the console. and i cant send it to get repaired coz its been tamperd with (i broke the old drive). and i have no warrenty. so what can i do to fix this?

and no i dont have the key from the lite on drive. the lite on drives chip has burnt out.
heres a pic of the damaged area:

the damaged drive would be bricked if what you said was true about the chip being damaged. but that pic doesnt indicate that, it just looks like you pulled the cap off the solder point. someone with soldering skills can probably fix that for you. I dunno why you think the chip is damaged when it isnt even in the area you circled?

odds are that can be fixed and you can use that drive still. as long as it didnt get erased and the key is still there.

can you provide more info on how this happened and if you already tried to flash before? im guessing you were attempting to solder the 2 R707 points together?

well yeah i was, but i knocked off a little black thing from the bottom two silver points. i asumed that was the firmware chip coz after i put it back in the 360 to see if it still worked it got one red ring and the code e64. so i bort a benq drive asuming i could jsut flash it and use it. turns out theres supposed to be soem kind of chip in the xbox and on the drive that match, or a code or something. im realy pissed at myself that i couldnt just leave it alone. hope that enough "more detial on what happend" :)

ok well yea that isnt the chip its just a solder point. and yes there isa code called a drive key in the drive and the 360 and they must match eachother. so in order to do that the key must be retreieved from the original drive. so in any case you will have to get that drive repaired to read the key. when that is done you can probably read the key still and use the same drive. but like i said you will need to get someone will good solder skill to repair it for you. there are some people here that will do it for a small fee which is better than buying a new 360. maybe try bhetrick he is really good with this type of stuff.

ok but the thing is i live in the uk. so id have to ship it out. and there is a black thing missing and it doesnt look liek a solder point as solder points are silver. the black thing liek was joining to points together at the bottom of the circle i drew. so i realy think that drive is fucked :(

alright well then there is nothing you can do it is broken and you have a nice door stop or an exspensive dvd player, whichever you prefer to call it.

yes, unless you send it to someone that can try to recover that drive for you. or send to someone to desolder the firmware TSOP from the main systemboard and then read the key by placing said chip into a socket and read it then solder it back on for you and use that key to flash a new drive.

Whoaa... slow down. You are far from needing a new Xbox. You're only missing your resistor at 710. That'd be a very fast, very simple repair for someone who can solder. I'd say find a electronics shop in your area and have them replace it. I'd be 1/10th the cost of a new 360.

I just repaired a LO board with the exact same problem for AD member Mikeismad not too long ago. The board was missing both the 709 and 710 resistors.

I scavanged a pair off some dead boards. They're a little bigger (size) than what belongs there, but they still hit the solder pads so I was able to attach them.
