I am completely new to all of this. I just bought a Sony DRX-510UL burner. My computer operates on Windows Xp and does have a DVD ROM. Can I copy DVD's from my DVD ROM to my burner ? If so, How do I set this up and what software do I need ?

THANKS !

Hi jmk.
You need to download dvdshrink and maybe decrypter,
depends on what you want to do,But that is your first step,You need to rip from dvd to hdd first to break the protection, macrovision etc,I'm a bit of a newbie myself but have learned tons from this form,Just go look at the guides on the home page,You want herbsman or scubapete to pick up on this really because these guys helped me heaps.

I am also a newbie. I read everything that i could on this site for 2 weeks before i even attempted to burn my 1st Backup. I downloaded DVD Shrink 3.1 and DVD Decrypter. I also downloaded Nero 6.0 those are the 3 most important pieces of software that you will use. I printed the guides for software as well. and followed each guide step by step. You can also download the guides from dvd-guides.com after reading the guides, read them all again. Buy some DVD-RW so your first few burns you can screw up all you want to , and your not throwing out your money. I started by using shrink to do my burning since I feel that it's easier for the newbie. Then I used decrypter, it's also pretty easy to use, although it has some additionial steps that need to be done. If you read, and read some more. follow the guides step by step, you'll being backing up in no time.
