Am having an odd problem getting the USB loader to work on my modded Wii where it never gets beyond the "mounting device, please wait" message. Have done a lot of searching and thinking it's a USB device compatibility issue but the two flash drives I used have been listed as compatible. I'd like to install the USB loader so I can run games from a USB drive.
Current config: Wiikey v1.9g, 3.2U, no previous soft modding of any kind done (a "virgin" system other than Wiikey)
What I did: 1) Installed HBC beta 8, successful 2) Installed cIOS36_rev10 using network method, successful 3) Installed Waninkoko's USB loader v1.5
In both cases the USB loader would never get beyond the screen that says "mounting device, please wait". I can see the USB drive light flashing on and off but it does nothing and I have to power off the system. I've tried several variations of formatting on the USB sticks (FAT, FAT32, NTFS), including pre-formatting to WBFS using the WBFS gui and loading a game ISO) but it would never get beyond that message. I checked both of these flash drives and they're listed as compatible if the U3 software is removed, which it was for both.
As an experiment I attached an old external HD (IDE drive in enclosure, USB 1.1). In this case it did find the device but wouldn't let me install a WBFS partition and gave me a -6 error. Am guessing this is a try compatibility issue but it at least tells me the USB port is probably okay.
I have a new external drive incoming, one listed as compatible by several users, but won't have that until early next week. In the meantime I'm just curious if anyone has run into this before and if you have any suggestions. My initial thought, aside from compatibility, is I'm missing a required IOS of some kind since I have a "virgin" system and haven't done any prior softmods.
I'm a complete noobb when it comes to HBC and softmodding so please go easy on me. lol

You should also have it formated to FAT (not NTSC) before formating it to WBFS.
Thanks Larry. Yes I did partition as primary, and FAT32 was one of the partition types I tried (along with NTFS, which I gathered wouldn't work but thought I'd try anyway) before formatting as WBFS. I did not try plain old FAT - though I incorrectly wrote above I did - suppose that would be worth a try.

Sounds like you might have to wait till your new drive comes in and hope for the best.
Thanks again. I'm going to do more testing with some different flash drives and other USB devices, I'll post back here with results of that and after the new drive install.
Quick update on this: I grabbed a different flash drive from work, happened to be another Cruzer but is 16g newer model, and it works perfectly. Apparently the other 2 Cruzer models I have weren't/aren't compatible.
This may work if your HD is powered by the wall and not USB. Make sure the HD has no power until the black press A to continue screen shows up. Also thry disconnecting power from the drive while the loader is looking for it and plug it back in.
