I am getting a new xbox 360 tommorrow because my current one (3 and a half years old which I have mentioned a billion times before in other threads) has the rrod and I attempted to fix it and failed miserably causing it to be unfixable. I started with a 0102 error code and finished with a 0110 error code. The new 360 will probably have a lite on drive or whatever comes in them nowadays but I want to flash my old Hitachi and use it with the new console. My question is: Does just extracting the key from a lite on or benq require a specific type of satachipset or will any work because I know flasing them requires certain chipsets? I know my Hitachi will work with any chipset but are the same restrictions there for simply extacting a key as are there for flashing in terms of the chipset required? If this has been answered before, I apologise. Thanks.
The new 360 will have a LiteOn drive. There really isn't a "might be" anymore. You should just modify the LiteOn instead of spoofing, since the LiteOn is a nice drive, and spoofing it is just gonna be more trouble. The LiteOn's did have trouble with the VIA Chipset, but I don't know if that's still an issue, cause I use nForce. But to flash the LiteOn you are gonna need a key extractor tool to do that! They made a USB one now called I think "USB Xtractor". It's only like $18, and will be perfect for flashing the drive.
I mean you will need the tool whether you want to spoof or not, so I think just flashing the LiteOn would be simpler!
Thnaks, great reply! I will buy the xtractor then and just flash the liteon instead of spoofing. Do you need to open the console to use this xtractor? It would be convenient if I didn't because I wouldn't void the warranty.
One last thing. Do you have to connect the tool to the dvd drive or do you not have to open the box up that far? Can the tool be any optical disc drive adapter for the 360 and why is this tool needed for the lite-on?
No you will need to take apart the 360 drive as well. All you do is just remove 4 screws to take the metal casing off. The tool is required to extract the Drive Key so you can mod the drive. That's just required for the LiteOn Drive. The key is so that when the drive and system are put together, the keys match. Otherwise M$ would know something is up. But ya you need the xtractor so you can get the key, it's required!
