I will be getting a new xbox 360 elite in a few weeks. I would like two softmod it two play backups. Ive read alot of posts but they are
out of date. Can somebody explain it these units are softmod and what is required.
I would like two know what two look out for when buying a unit and also what is required two burn backups. e.g do i need a special burner or discs etc
Hey i don't know about soft modding but i know about the other stuff.
To burn backups you need:
1. A dvd r dl burner.
2. Dvd r dl discs (preferably verbatim brand but not required.)
3. Need to make sure your burner can read 360 games to extract their .iso file. Research burners and prices for this one. That is if you are making backups from games you own, not pirating games.
4. If you play on live, a program to check the .iso (ABGX360).
That is what you need to backup games and to play them online. Any more questions just feel free to ask. :)

Wow, noobs giving other noobs help (sorry, but it's true).
1. is ok.
2. You need DVD+R DL disks, DVD-R DL won't do. Verbatims are the best out there and memorex won't work for most people.
3. There is no burner that can read 360 originals. There are only 4 Samsung drives (SH-D162C, SH-D162D, SH-D163A and SH-D163B) or you need an original Xbox 360 drive with 0800 firmware.
4. If you have (or want to flash with) iXtreme, I would really recommend checking the .iso with ABGX (www.abgx360.com)because if you have a bad rip the game won't boot and you wasted a disk.
To get all the stuff about softmodding, search the forum member leerage and follow the links in his signature.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

The iXtreme 1.6 firmware was just released a few of days ago, and there's plenty of threads about it. Three days old is not out of date. You can start HERE and grab the latest tutorial.
