I've posted this problem on several sites and have not yet found anyone that has experienced this. I have an xbox360 with factory ms28 drive flashed with the ixtreme 1.51 fw. The drive will read backups without problem as long as they are on the verbatim disks from singapore. I have one game burned on a memorex dl,and it works fine(it was actually burned by a friend, I can't the memorex's to work). Whenever I insert an original disk, I get the error "please insert into an xbox360 console".
If it was a laser issue, wouldn't it have a problem with all disks? Just thought I would throw this one out there for all the fantastic minds behind Afterdawn :-)

Has this happened with any other iXtreme Firmware on the drive? Like a previous version? May want to update it to 1.6.

I'd say you are having a weak laser issue. I bet if you boost the laser it would start working again. Verbs are just the best disk and easier on the laser which would explain why they work.

Thanks for your posts...unfortunately, it has occured with previous f/w's and was hoping the problem would correct itself when I upgraded to 1.51. As far as the weak laser, could you help me with a tutorial on how to adjust it? Could it have anything to do with the speed adjustment during the flash...I think I set it at 5x.

Search adjust POT and you'll get a guide. You need a mutimeter and you have to take a part the drive to get to it. Pretty easy to do and sounds like a fix for your problem or replace the drive.

I didn't think they even offered 5x with 1.51

If you modded the FW yourself to set the speed to 5x, then reflash with the correct 12x fw

Ya 1.51 doesn't offer 5x. So you either have an older firmware, or something is up...

I believe you are correct, the first time I flashed was with v1.4 and it did ask what speed to use, I remember using 5x. when updated to 1.51 it didn't ask to set a speed at all(i don't remember it doing so). I beleive I'll try the laser fix...or maybe just replace the drive. I should be able to just swap the mainboards in the drive's right?

have you also tried just flashing it back to the stock firmware? Will that atleast read originals? Then maybe you can try flashing to 1.6 from that.

I would boost the laser first, it's free if you own the multimeter. If not, make sure you get the BenQ or just buy a new laser. Laser replacement would be cheap.

I don't know... I think he should try his original firmware first, before going to adjust the laser!

Unfotunately, I no longer have the original firmware. I'm stupid for not putting it on its own flash drive. I did notice when upgrading to the lates firmware, I had to put the drive in vendor mode. Would vendor mode put the drive back at the factory state, or will it still show as modified? Just curious.

Hey, good news...the POT tweaking worked. My MS28 drive is running like a new drive. I really appreciate your input. I'm so excited. Thanks again.
