Napster slashes prices

Beginning tonight, the long running online music service Napster will drop the price of their cheapest monthly subscription from $13 USD to $5 USD, allowing users to stream unlimited amounts of music while receiving five DRM-free MP3 tracks every month. Awesome, I made sure I logged in and changed my plan immediately, as it still had me down for the $12.95 plan.

In 1997 I streamed unlimited amounts of music from Napster for free. :)

Isn't this Napster not even related to the original Napster? I thought when they got shut down, some completely different company just bought their trademark and name.

Let me downlaod the ones I want without DRM and stream it all I want and I'll pay 9$ a month!

Well... depending on the monthly plan, you get X number of credits to download DRM free MP3s.

Napster is still centered around Microsoft's "Plays For Sure" which is a broken DRM format, so $5 isn't so bad afterall! ;-)

Napster was sold to Roxio, which then sold it's E-Z CD Creator software division to Sonic Solutions the last time I heard about 3 years ago...

Thats half right, the upper part of the company(the non working,just owning part) sold off everything and called themselves macaroni... er..Napster since they bought the IP remains.....

Thanks cousinkix for the link as I'd wondered what the new macaroni-er napster was about. $5 for 30 second clips and mostly mainstream music, not interesting. How about Emusic?
