Hi, I have all the stuff for a xclamp fix but no nylon washers. Do you reckon i could fashion some out of cardboard using the steel m5 washers as a template since they are only there to insulate?
dont use cardboard at all. nylon washer are the way to go and they arent just there to insulate they are there to keep the metal washers from digging into the board and damaging it. plastic washers will get brittle and crumble but nylon should work good.
sorry to but in the conversation, but all of you are wrong, (unfourtantlly) you use nylon washers because its electronics = static electricity = dead board. that is why they nylon should be touching the top and bottem of the board, not metal or steal. I have used nylon on all of my fixes, and have never had one warp or crumble, and thanks for saying the kits are worthless, because your right. and if you want the best RROD fix guide, then PM me.
EDIT: some small hardware shops dont have nylon, but major ones do. Home Depote, Lowes, ect.
And i ment no offense in saying your wrong, i just want you guys to understand why nylon is used, thats all. so please take no offense.
I think its both the ESD and to keep it from digging into the board. I forgot the nylon once and my board got chewed up by the metal scraping on it.
but yea ESD is true, and cardboard would be the worst option in regards to that. I work in an ESD free environment, we have grounded work benches, floor matts, esd painted floor and wear esd foot straps and esd smocks. In true esd compliance you arent even supposed to have any paper or cardboard in the work area if that gives you any idea how bad that is.
