hi all, this is my first post so please bear with me, i just wanted to ask a few questions (i dont mind searching for the answers, just need to know they are here first). my wii is a virgin machine just upgraded to version 4.0E
1. i have managed to use the sd card to load bannerbomb and hbc but when i try to use the hbc i just get a screen with bubbles on it, is this a common problem or do you think ive done something wrong?
2.do i need to leave the sd card in the wii for the hbc to work or can it be taken out. i robbed it from the wifes digicam so she'll be expecting it back :(
3. would i be right in saying that i can now burn games to dvd for use on my wii. if so which format?
like i say im sorry if theese are common questions but since the forum is so big i thought id see if the answers are here for me to find instead of spending hours looking for info which just isnt here
1. You loaded HBC correctly. enjoy its bubbly goodness.
2. You need to have apps on your SD card for it to list the programs on the screen. If you do not have a SD card in or apps loaded in the /apps folder the screen will be blank.
3. Look into the gecko app. Games come in iso format to burn. Google imgburn for the burning software.
There are some helpful threads here about burning games, so use that search field up top.
everthing falls into place nicely now. managed to get the homebrew browser working and installed gecko app (am i right in saying this is the app to play the iso's) only i had allready burned an iso with imgburn but when i go to play it i get message no dvd found :( probably a dodgy iso maybe. anyway curenetly downloading mplayer to see if the dvd side of things work.
Yah WiiGator might work better than Gecko, I got a hardmodded wii, so never tried any of those programs. I don't think playing backup games through the disk channel works on softmodded wii's, that's why you need an app like Wiigator to load them.
Guys youve been extremly helpful today, fantastic forum only wish i'd found it about 2 yrs ago.
Is the Wiigator a stand alone app? I've only seen as part of bundle with homebrew which I allready have, and I've not seen it in the homebrew browser. Are there any others that might work as well?
Also one more question, how long would you say it takes for you to download an iso, I downloaded one yesterday in about 2 hours but today from the same site but different file, its going to take about 13 hours.
Gecko is used to play original imports. You can play backups with it also if you are hard-moded (have a mod chip)but then you would just use the disc channel. (Although you must be careful not to install out of region updates if you use the disc channel)
Without a mod chip you won't be able to play backups with Gecko.
The WiiGator Backup Launcher is a stand alone app the same way Gecko is.
If you put it on your SD card you will see it in the Homebrew Channel.
Remember that all apps that you put in a folder in your apps folder must be renamed to boot.dol
The thing about the WiiGator Backup Launcher is that it needs a cIOS to be able to run the backups. You can put the Backup Launcher on your SD card and run it from the Homebrew Channel but unless you have cIOS, the backups won't run.
I hate terrible analogies and this is a terrible one but here it goes.
The Backup launcher (car) can't run without the cIOS (fuel)
Even if you had no fuel in your car, you would still have your car, your car wouldn't cease to exist because you have no fuel you just wouldn't be able to do anything with it.
How you install cIOS will depend on which firmware you have. Basically the higher the firmware the more you will have to go through to get it installed but it is still relatively easy.
