I am having a problem upgrading a hitachi from a 1.41 to the 1.51 firmware. I do the whole Mode B thing with Slax, my pc detects it, JF detects my drive and this is where I lose the battle. The tut says I have to send it to Mode B so I click 78/79 and click Mode B. I open the dive and hit ok, then I put in the unlock cd in the system and thats where I get my error, I get a dump failed error and I cant do nothing after that. I switch to I/O port and my pc freezes. Any help would be appreciated, how do I get past that error

man, there are a heck of a lot of members that have a name starting with 'x' or 'ex' on the first page. but try using the winapi part withing jungleflasher if the port io selection doesnt work. i havent flashed a hitachi with JF yet, so im not of much use there, but you could also try the old firmware tool box, assuming it still is up to date and works with the new FW, 1.51 is the newest for hitachis.

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

Lol Xs in every corner. I actually did use the winapi selection and it got further but ended up the same. I wil try Toolbox but most likely just end up doing my Ben Q and setting this one aside.

I've flashed a 79 without an issue.

You are supposed to only use WinAPI when you do not have a VIA card installed.

If you have a VIA card installed, and but the drivers for it are uninstalled, then you use portIO.

So once you put the 79 unlock disc in, it freezes? Or are you able to hit the 79 unlock button?

'm reading in the JF Guide, and I don't see them mentioning anything about the SLAX disc. Basically says to open JF, and if the drive shows up in JF, then you can move forward with Sending Mode-B to the drive.

It doesn't say it, but that is the "old school" method that people used to put their hitachi in modeb. So it should work.

Well then, if he already got it into modeb with the SLAX, then why would he be going with pressing the button to send the command to the drive for modeb? Wouldn't you just skip that part? I just flashed a 79 2 weeks ago, but I didn't use SLAX for it.

You are exactly right. As long as the drive boots into modeb with slax, then yes, he would skip the part of hitting that button.

I guess I assumed that he did skip that part...

OP, can you confirm that you did get the drive into modeb with slax, and that you aren't trying to also get it into modeb with jf?

See I think that's why it's not working, cause in the tut it says to click it, but if he already got it into modeb with SLAX, he just needs to skip that part!

If that's what he's doing, then that is exactly what the problem would be.

He needs to update this if he wants more help...

Lol, yeah I guess this is my mistake, I do use Slax to go to ModeB thats how my puter detects the drive, but following the instructions I go and do it again on JF. Common sense is I WOULD skip that part and go straight to the unlocking part. Ill try again to see what happens.

Ok I must be the dumbest flasher ever or this is not working. Ok first I get my drive to ModeB using Slax, I go to JF and I select Port IO and 78/79, put the unlock cd in the drive hit unlock and I get the Rom Execute Command Failed error. I try it again this time manually and I get a failed unlock message. I redo the whole thing this time without Slax, I open JF click 78/79, click the ModeB button it goes through put in the cd and I get the same crap. Jesus is there a flashing for dummies book around cuz damn I need it.
