You don't need a 32Gb SD Card. I use a 2Gb card. Even a 1GB card would probably do.

I'm not sure about WiiConnect24. If you want to be safe, just disable it. That's what I did. I don't use it anyway.
Perhaps someone else can give some more accurate info about WiiConnect24 though.

Hello Larry.
Sorry to ask you but I read the complete thread but I still have a question.

I gave my Wii to a friend and he made the softmood to it. I don't know exactly what he made (what things installed) but know I can play games using Backup launcher Gamma. Now I cna play all the old games (like GH Aerosmith, TG PGA10, Grand Slam Tennis), but I cannot play the new games like Punch out, Wii Sports Resort, Ghost busters. Every time I use the loader to play a game I receive the Error #002 blue screen.

I read the post and there are instructions to depending if the Wii is already soft mooded or not.

My question: Is there any thing special that I need to be aware before trying the procedure at the beginning of the post? Should I follow the procedure like if my Wii is not Soft mooded or I need to follow a different procedure?

I hope you can help me, I just want to fix this error.

I don't know the version of the gamma launcher, but I know at the bottom of the screen I can read. Backup launcher 0.3 gamma, and CIOS249.

Thank you.

Zanvetto.

Looks like a perfectly written guide. My question is once this is done do i just put a burned wii game in the console to play them or is there a certain way to load them?

thank you very much

I have 2 questions I hope someone can answer:

1) Can you mod a Japanese or Korean Wii using this method? I read somewhere that you can't but this guide doesn't say so, so I wanted to make sure before trying it.

2) Just out of curiosity, if you have a korean Wii with firmware 3.3 or lower, can you use the Japanese Zelda no Densetsu to run the Twilight Hack or do you have to use a Korean Zelda disc?

Thanks.

What does the guide say about SD Card requirement?

Does the guide say to disable WiiConnect24?

Come on guys half of these questions that have been asked lately could be avoided if you read the guide and use your common sense.

You have to load the games thru the backup launcher. They may show up in the disc channel, but they won't play.

For the person getting the 002 error on Punchout and other newer games, you need to install a better backup launcher, like NeoGamma.

Hi everybody.. I've been trying very hard for the last 9 hours to get my wii working. I didn't start out with this guide but I intend to, once I get some sleep. Aaaanyway...

I have a wii with 2.1E firmware. I couldn't use the Bannerbomb. I never got to "Load Boot dol/elf?". Instead it always froze and I tried all the different bannerbomb files.

So I decided to try the twilight hack, that seemed to work. Then I installed the homebrew channel. But from there, I haven't been able to install any cIOS or use a firmware downgrader or upgrader. Always gotten errors whether I did an internet installation or a wireless one. Always something about a "bad hash". Not many people seem to be getting those so I figured it has to be the firmware. I've been stuck with 2.1E firmware with a HBC and the twilight hack. Not being able to much.

My question is.. Since I'd like to try out this guide.. Do I first upgrade my firmware to 4.1 using the nintendo menu (or does this harm the wii since the twilight hack is on it?) and then follow this guide (will the twilight hack not affect bannerbomb?) Or do I somehow try to remove the twilight hack before following this guide as well as the HBC perhaps? To go for a fresh start? Will the twilight hack and hbc automatically stop working after I upgrade to 4.1 firmware?

I'm sorry for the questions.... I've been searching forums all night and I haven't been able to get this going and working... So I am very very sad right now.

If my wii wasn't 2.1E, I'd have probably finished modding it ages ago.. I'm so frustrated. Thanks for your help.

Update to 4.1 firmware. Then start at the Downgrade IOS35: section of the guide.

Thanks, but I got a little impatient and decided to format the wii before I started. So I followed the guide from the beginning. Everything went smoothly. So for anyone having problems with a 2.1E firmware. You'll need to update it. I've tried literally everything and nothing has worked until now.

Having problems with reading discs though.. At least backups, getting a timeout message in Neogamma and some noise from the Wii. In the main wii menu it gives me an error message and asks me to remove the disc and reboot. All discs are clean and new and properly burned. Not sure whether this is really a "game" question or not or whether this has something to do with the softmod. Sorry.

Games will not boot from the disc channel unless you follow the linked guide at the bottom of this guide. Try uninstalling NeoGamma and then reinstalling it.

Yeah thanks I know, I just didn't expect the computer to crash from it. But perhaps that's just normal then. However, I always get that timeout message in neogamma, no matter what I load. All I can find about that is the fact that the maker added a timeout message. What's causing it, I have no idea. But yeah, I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling Neogamma. Thanks.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but still the same error. And the wii makes hickup noises, as if it was a bad DVD. But it isn't. It's DVD+R, not a RW. Three different ones with ISOS burned onto them. It tries to load them for a few seconds, makes hickup noises and then it says "timeout" and I'm moved back to the Neogamma menu.

Try booktyping the DVD+R media to DVD-ROM. You really should be using DVD-R media.

That worked, thanks a lot! :) Now my problem is a green screen I'm getting but I'll ask about that on another thread. Thanks a lot!

Hey Larry,

Excellent guide. You should put the guide on its own website and have links for FAQ and Compatibility lists, really break it down to where its easier to navigate. There are so many people that seem to be asking the same questions over and over. The search doesn't seem to work too well, so I may be asking something that has already been asked.

I can't figure out how to format a usb drive to where it can be read by any usb loader app. I eventually want to use CoverFloader because I love the look and it reminds me of the Apple look and I'm a big fan of apple.

I've done so many different things trying to get my usb device to work, that I hope I haven't hurt my softmod in any way.

I am running Mac OS X. And I know how to format and partition. Do I need multiple partitions? The only format options I have available besides "Mac OS" are MS-DOS (FAT) and "Free Space".

I read on the compatibility wiki page that my ipod is compatible. But, I've tried everything I can think of. Eventually I'll probably go buy a large external hard drive, but I want to get the darn thing working first.

What is WBFS? I've downloaded the mac version of it. But, it doesn't read any drives? I also read somewhere that "usb loader" is what converts the drive format to WBFS.

Also, in your guide, after Downgrade IOS35" you say to (skip patchmii and dvdx). Should I go back and install them? Playing DVDs sounds fun. Also, is there a way to burn dvds to a drive the same way as the games? kind of turn the wii into a media center?

Sorry for all the noob questions. I thought I had this all figured out. Because getting the homebrew channel and all that installed was so easy. Getting this hard drive thing figured out has proved to be a chore.

I am new here and am probably doing this all wrong but here goes, Will this work if I am on 3.4U and Already have Homebrew installed with backup launcher. I tried to update to new version of Homebrew but it says failed because can't find a vulnerable IOS. I want to update my Wii ti syatem 4.1 and still have the capability to play my backup games from disc with backup launcher or whichever means that will work. Can you direct me to the thread or link that gives a detailed description on how to do these updates that a 60 year old might can do, lol . Thanks in advance for any info or help that you can provide. Thanks Again from a very newbie

Update to 4.1 firmware. Then run IOS60Patched.wad and IOS Downgrader. Then try installing the new Homebrew Channel.

After that you can install Preloader .29, cIOSCorp, CIOS60BF.wad then reinstall Preloader .29 again.
