SIMPLES!!
There is no need to update the guide.

Most are smart enough to know what the diffrence between a softmod and a hardmod is. If they don't most will actually take the time and use google (or some other serach engine) to find out what the diffrences is.
I have trolled through many forums and guides including all 39 pages on here and have no problems with my own ability to softmod a Wii,but didnt expect to run into Mr Grumpy when asking a valid question or not, anyways thanks for your input i shall take it all with a very large pinch of salt .

I am not grumpy. I just hate questions that could be answered by using a little common sense.

As you said there are 39 (now 40) pages of post with questions. Allot of those questions could have been avoided if users just used common sense. You don't like the fact that I called you out on it so that is fine call me Mr Grumpy if it makes you feel better.

Now there are 1 1/2 pages of us going back and forth and for that I will apologize to those that have to wade through it. But maybe this will make people think twice about asking a question that could be answered if you just used a little common sense.

I have 2 questions I hope someone can answer:

1) Can you mod a Japanese or Korean Wii using this method? I read somewhere that you can't but this guide doesn't say so, so I wanted to make sure before trying it.

2) Just out of curiosity, if you have a korean Wii with firmware 3.3 or lower, can you use the Japanese Zelda no Densetsu to run the Twilight Hack or do you have to use a Korean Zelda disc?

Thanks.

I get tons of PM's and usually ignore them unless I know the person that sent it. If you have an issue ask it in this thread or start a new thread.

As for your issue I have no idea why you can't play regular games. The softmod should not effect that.

@Lightduty

Do the steps that I explained in my previous reply to your post. If you do this then you should be able to launch the disc from the disc channel.

As for updating to 4.1 did I say to update to 4.1 with the Wii Sports Resort disc? No I said update the system like you normally would. I don't think Wii Sports Resort updates the Wii Menu firmware. It just installs a few IOS files.

Ok, I will try the system update, I thought they would be the same update. I can as right now, play all my backups and new games like resort that I wil be trying to make a backup of that too. I will do the system update from system menu and then Then run IOS60Patched.wad and IOS Downgrader but when I run the downgrader, will I be asked to choose what to downgrade to? Then I will install Preloader .29, cIOSCorp, CIOS60BF.wad then reinstall Preloader .29 again. Is this right? Sorry for being the dummy. :)

Ok, I try to update system to 4.1 over wifi connection and I end up with error code 32017. When I go back to system menu and check version, it says I have 4.1U but backup launcher and ios249 still works and everything else still seems to work but I did not do any of the other steps after system update beacuse of the error 32017. Should I try to continue or leave as is ? Thanx again.

I just want to wade in with my point of view here (and this really is just my opinion).

2 weeks ago I have never modded a Wii before but it was something I was thinking about doing when I bought one. I knew a little about the wii modding scene apart from some background reading here and there.

I came across Larry's guide and felt it was the best (and clearest) current guide I have come across and decided that was going to be the one I followed.

Now, like I mentioned, I too had never done this before so would consider myself to be on the lowest level of modding so to make sure I was as prepared as I could possibly be I read LOADS! If I didn't understand a step of the guide (or what I was installing) I went off and found out. After all google can be a very powerful ally and really should be anyone's first port of call rather than just posting (and yes, I hold my hands up that I have been guilty of knee jerk posting).

Anyway my mod went ok and I am now up and running on a softmodded Wii running games off backup discs and via a HDD and I was very pleased with the results and how I had achieved it.

My point is that although I do agree that yes everyone is at a different level and do need a hand from time to time a lot of the questions on here are very unnecessary and do come across as being plain lazy from folk who just want a quick answer rather than searching around.

And before someone says I'm an idiot for merely suggesting this I would like to say that I do also understand it can be tricky (and perhaps scary / worrying) for some people to understand and follow this stuff but my reply to that is if you are worried about modding and can't follow or research about this on your own then you really should consider not doing it.

After all, you mod you console at your own risk. I would imagine if things do go wrong or genuine help is require most people will be happy to offer it but if you come on here asking very basic questions that have either been answered already then you will just annoy people. Especially as this 'guide' thread is almost 40 pages long now.....

I followed every instruction on this guide and now I can play games through the neogamma channel. But, when I try to use the rebooter, the image of the game in the disc channel displays but when i press "Start" it tries to load but then says "An error has occurred... Please eject the disc and power off the console. Please refer to the wii operations manual" (or something similar to that) with a black background.. When I launch neogamma it says I have cIOS 249 rev 14. Is there some sort of compatibility issue with that version maybe??
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

When you say rebooter do you mean cIOSCorp (as in running backup games through the normal disc channel) or do you just get the error from Neogamma on certain back ups?

I had this problem when trying to run a copy of Pikmin 2 and thought it was something to do with my set up. Turns out the most common way of getting that error is a bad burn!

My suggestion would be to re-burn another copy of the game and try that before tinkering with your current setup so you can rule a bad burn out. Failing that try another brand of disc or another backup game.

If you want to play games from the disc channel then follow the linked guide I have provided at the end of this guide.

Other wise just boot the game with NeoGamma.

I did a search for this answer and nobody rplied to other requests for the same info so I am asking in this forum because it seems like you guys, even the smart asses, seem to know what you are talking about.
I modded my personal wii 2 weeks ago using this guide and it worked perfect. So I said to hell with it, Wiis for everybody. So I bought one for every room in the house on ebay. So in modding the other 4 I noticed that one alread had the homebrew channel on it but nothing else. So I attempted to start fresh by following the guide and as soon as I went to the ios downgrader step I got the message, You must be a pirate!!! Press home to exit. After that nothing else I tried would work. It has 4.1u on it and as far as I can tell it isn't bricked. Can this be fixed or should I return to sender. Would apprieciate any assistance from the kings of modding. I bow in your reverance. LOL

hey, followeed your guide awhile ago after wiikey failure(F%$knsh*t), rediscovered my attraction to wii, playing with wads(lol), vc n64 "backups", i have about 35 wii "backups" and the only one which wont play is Links moderatly gay crossbow training, apart from that, my DBZ budokai tenkaichi 2 and mario kart experience a bit 'o "choppiness". But thats it. Much respect for this easy to follow, well executed, incredibly useful guide. As we say in my head, "that sh*t is lesbian".

****** "choppiness" on DBZ and Mario Kart only during intro movies (before you push start, do people still use the term FMV? lol, I remember when Psx came out and games were all about "FMV" for awhile. I stuck to my SNES until the far superior but cartridge handicapped N64 came out. Imagine if N64 had had cd-rom.....), but i digress. gameplay on both games is 100% all gravy, carving mofo's up on MK online all day. Beware of a racer named "bumsmells" how long until someone removes this dribble?

I am but the village idiot modder, but have you tried a data reset,(through wii system menu" then start installing from scratch? you'll lose whatever game channels are on there (if any), but i get the feeling thats not a problem.... just an idea.

Hi, I was wondering about using a back-up of an Action Replay on the softmodded Wii. I just finished following your guide, and the only disc I had to try it out with was a back-up of Action Replay. I open the Neogamma back-up loader, and try running the AR back-up. I choose "Launch Game on DVD." Then I get an "exception (DSI) occured," stack dump, code dump, and a bunch of hex code, it seems. Is it a problem with my disc or something else?

i think your best bet would be trying a "backup" of a legally purchased wii title, perhaps one thats only 6 or 700mb when compressed.....there's heaps. Read between the cheeks.

If your at 4.1 firmware then follow the guide. i don't know what to tell you about the error your getting.

@ruff469

Make sure you have a clean SD Card with just the softmod files on it.

Make sure all loaders and WAD Installed VC/WiiWare games are uninstalled.

Plus google shared2clean and run it on your Wii to clean the system (it stores the info on your system that your a pirate and this application should clean that out).

I have a softmoded 4.0U Wii. I tried to do the update to 4.1U using the Wii updater and I get a error code: 32017. But the funny thing is it shows the version in the Wii system menu as 4.1U. Anyone have any idea about this?

Well I went ahead and run through the Offline Update Guide and then did the update using Wii updater and it updated just fine. I then had to do the hack to make the backed up games run from the disc channel again.

After I reinstalled the hack for loading games from the disc channel I got the error again from the Wii updater. So it looks like the hack for the backup game disc channel loader is screwing up with the update. Just some information for you guys.

I have the same prob and the wii support page says to try updating again and I did that with same results and it says if problem still exists to give support a call. I am wondering if I should make the call before I finishe installing by the guide. What are you going to do?
