congee- just install rev14, it'll overwrite 13a. Then use wad manager to uninstall Backup Launcher (you'll need to have the WAD file for backup launcher on your sd card) and then use wad manager to install Neogamma. DO NOT UNINSTALL Rev13a, it can brick you. Just install rev14 over it.

I would like to soft mod my wii with this guide, but I have some questions. I have a launch model wii that was modded by someone. I have no idea which type of chip or software. I rarely go online with my wii and think I last updated for mario kart. Would I be able to follow this guide without bricking my wii or should I take some other precautions? I know it is not a lot of information, but I am mainly just curious if a soft mod can override the hard mod.
Thanks for any help.

no need for usb loaders or anything
on the black and green screen you can scroll down once and press right and it will give you the option to load form usb and even SD cards.
Any other questions just ask.

cIOS14: Okay, that sounds simple enough.
Backup Launcher: In the older version of the softmod guide, it required I install IOS36, IOS60Patched and WG3g002fix. According to the new guide, I still need IOS60Patched and can remove WG3g002fix (and then replace it with NeoGamma).
Can I remove IOS36? If so, is there a particular order I should remove them in?
Thanks for all of your help!

hi guys, im brand new to this website and i did sofmod my wii using this tuto.. It works great, got it first time i tried without any problems!
I have some questions i would like to ask:
1- It is safe to continue doing the updates via internet or via some games?
2- If needed, is there any way to restore my wii to default?
3- Is there any difference with a chipped wii instead of softmod? I mean i can play backup games with a softmod why whould i go for a chip?

I have some questions i would like to ask:
1- It is safe to continue doing the updates via internet or via some games?
NO - Don't update from a game as you will risk overwriting an ISO and screwing it all up. Your best bet is to disable disk updates in preloader so you are never tempted. If a game does need something new installed to work then search the forums for info and you will find out how to get it working
2- If needed, is there any way to restore my wii to default?
I think you can do a system update or something that will overwrite all the custom stuff you have installed which takes you back to default. Not too sure on this one so will leave it to someone else to answer.
3- Is there any difference with a chipped wii instead of softmod? I mean i can play backup games with a softmod why whould i go for a chip?
Errr....well the big old chip attached to the Wii's motherboard could be the difference! Chips where the best way of playing backups way back when as softmodding wasn't possible. Over the years, as people have found out more how the Wii works, the softmod option has become easier to implement. For example you could only get the HBC on a wii as a softmod by using a Zelda game (hence the Twilight hack)
By the way I think you could have found all of this out if you read through this thread....

How do I remove 13a and Backup Launcher 0.3 and then install cIOS14 and Neo Gamma?
My system is a 4.0u, with Backup Launcher 0.3, cIOS13a and USB Loader GX installed (forwarder).
Thanks

Again questions that could have been answered if you had read past post.
NEVER EVER UNINSTALL AN IOS!
If you want to update everything then do the below steps.
Update to 4.1 firmware.
Run IOS60Patched.wad again.
Run IOS Downgrader.
Run cIOS38_rev14 Installer.
Uninstall WIiGator using data management channels.
Run WAD manager to install NeoGammaR6-NGBL.wad to the System.
All of this has been covered a few times already in poast post. So feel lucky I went over it again.

You place them in a folder named wad. Everything was in its proper place in the download. Just add the apps and wad folder (that is inside the SD Card folder to the root of your SD card.
Use WAD Manager (not custom wad manager) when installing IOS16.wad file. If you get an error then try using the custom WAD Manager.

First off, thanks very much for your answers. I'll give this a try later tonight. I'm sure I won't have any problems.
You are right that there was a posting that shows me how to do the update on my console. My apologies for tying up the thread with a question that was previously answered, but sometimes these things get lost in 45+ page threads. (maybe this thread should be re-booted?)
You might want to consider some of the comments that have been made regarding the "additional commentary" that is sometimes included with your answers. Don't consider my comment ungrateful: I think everyone (including myself) appreciates the work you've done, but they would probably appreciate it even more if there wasn't a fear of getting blasted for asking a (potentially stupid) question.
I admit that I was reluctant to post to this thread, as I wasn't really looking forward to getting reprimanded (which ended up happening), which is why I was very pleased to get the original response to my question (which came from another user).
Anyways, I'm not here to pick a fight, but it should be food for thought. Again, though, thanks for your help.

Have you ever thought that maybe the reason I do add those little comments is to have that effect on users.
Maybe if a user is afraid to post it will make them take those extra few minutes to read past post before actually asking their question.
If I have to live with lazy users asking the same redundant questions over and over again then they can live with my sarcasm.

I did the uninstall of HBC 1.0 and installed HBC 1.0.3 via the Hackmii installer and was able to install Bootmii as boot2 and did a NAND B/U to SD with 0% bad blocks.
Appreciate all your help in getting me to this point. All is working well. Now I've read every page here and didn't see the following questions, except the first one which I asked twice already recently and I know, bad forum etiquette :)
1. Sorry but again, when a BU disc is inserted the default Wii Disc CHL says "Disc Update", what does this mean and would it hurt if I opened this channel to apply this update?
2. Having all this installed and reading not only this thread, but googling it, I can't seem to find a straight answer. Am I protected if I buy new releases and play them aka Sports Resort etc.? Do I need to do anything else? Priority it to keep my BU's useful, but I don't mind buying a game if it requires complex hoops to hop through which my kiddos would certainly screw up.
3. Over on the Bootmii site they have a users guide section on how to use Bootmii and it's pretty simple (just a paragraph or two)...took me while to figure our how to navigate the menu. But really, is it just for making a BU on the NAND and restoring the BU if needed? Anything else I'm missing?
Thanks,
Lex

I guess I should get my 20yo grandson to help me out. Anyway, I put the softmod files on the sd card. When I run homebrew now, all I get is a bubbles screen. My card just has 2 folders, apps and wad on it and nothing else. I am not using the sd card that I had in my nand with the homebrew already installed. I thought I saw a similar problem asked but didn't find the answer. Maybe you have patience enough to help me out I hope. :) Thanks Again
lol, He will be ok. I am just having probs keeping up with all the questions and problems. I will get there or have a brick, one or the other. lol Thanks tho
Dont hold ya breathe Lightduty..this guy is one miserable power tripper who thinks he is God because he created a guide but dosent have any patients what so ever in helping people out because his own guide isnt as fool proof as he thinks..and im only saying what many other people realy think of good ol Larry.
larry, can u give me any info as to why homebrew won't start up to install anything? I did put the softmod files on a new 4gb sd card. Or maybe I have been too much a problem for ya because i don't have even much base knowledge of all this but I did manage to get the homebrew installed on my 3.4 system. now it's 4.1 and hoped to proceed to installing the iso60patched wad. but now I am lost again with the new card. sorry to be a pest. thanx anyway. :)
Hey Larry, I finally got things working by taking some guessing chances and i guess i am lucky. I did not use a clean sd card. I used my orginal card with what I had Homebrew installed and added the apps and the wads to it and then I did the steps you told me and now everything seems to work great, even play the backups from the disc channel. Only thing I never got to work was the Wii Shop Channel and it says it needs an update but, I can do without that. I guess the 4gb sdhc card was not compatible but it same brand as my 2 gb sd card by Kingston. As far as I can tell unless i am missing something, I see no reason for me to install the neogama wad. Am I missing something? Anyway, I know I been a pain to help but you did help me a lot and I did a lot of reading even tho I had to take a bottle of advils to cure my headache from the eyestrain. Thanks this is a great guide if you start from fresh but was kinda hard for me because I was already softmodded on 3.4. Thanks Again :)

I am on 4.1E . Please gimme a hand here guys! Could this because of the bannerbomb versions ? I tried them all!
I just got a Wii 4.1U LU1122...
I have exactly the same issue.
- Clean new system
- Just upgraded to 4.1U from official site.
PLEASE HELP
I have now bought a few different SD cards and formatted them both FAT32 and also tried FAT.
Tried with winzip, 7sip, winrar
ALL FAILS
Does this mean this whole thread only works for old Wiis and not at all for any new Wee?
Please give me your experience here ASAP
Thanks a lot for a great threat otherwise,

I would start here: http://bootmii.org/faq/ which is posted in the OP. I just installed it...was able to do it as boot2. I think if I recall correctly that it will test and see if it can install boot2 or not. If it had said "test failed", then I would have opted out of bootmii personally...not sure the benefit if you can boot directly to the SD card in the event of a NAND corruption.

DO NOT REMOVE AN IOS! You'll end up bricked. Just re-install IOS60Patched, install Neogamma, & uninstall WG3g002fix.
