Hey everyone...
I'm having some problems converting some AVI's to VOBs. At first, I thought that I could convert the avis to mpegs using tmpegnc and then from mpegs to vobs using DVD Author, but I must have tried about 15 times to use DVD Author, and it freezed everytime. I know that this is not a hardware error, because my comp rarely freezes. So my question to you all is, is there any other program like DVD Author that can convert mpegs to vobs. Or, if you all have any info about another method about changing the avis into vobs without converting to mpegs, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where does it freeze in DVD Author? Using AVI codec or G-Spot, what are the specs on your movie you are putting into DVD Author? TMPGEnc also offers a very good program called DVD Source Creator. If I find DVD Author to freeze or error out. I run the file through source creator and then back into DVD Author and it usually works.

Hi mrcapone,

Your AVI files need to be converted into MPEG before burning because VOB files are actually some kind of MPEG-2 files. But you are not required to use an external MPEG encoder to do so (it gives the best image quality though).

If you prefer all-in-one programs, give a try to NeroVision Express (part of Nero 6). It's a tool for video editing, MPEG encoding and DVD authoring.
