I understand using softmod, you will only be able to obtain 3x speed instead of 6x. Unfortunately, I have not found any way to fix this. Despite this, I have heard information that people have been soft modding and having perfect burns with no speed troubles. I have burned many games using many different strategies. I have tried Nero, ImgBurn, MagicISO, Alcohol, etc. using different settings. Throughout my trials, I have not seen any difference in my disc speeds. The main games I have had this trouble the most in is Punch-out!! (no tutorial / skips movies), Wario Land: Shake It (90% of movies are choppy / music and sfx take a moment to load), Tales of Symphonia: DotNW (loading into new areas stops sound and takes awhile). There are more, but I cannot think of them atm.

These are my questions:

1.)Is there any way possible to obtain perfect speeds with softmod?

2.)If not, what is the best possible hard mod (non-solder) that will fix this while keeping Wii's intended functionality?

3.)If no solution, what is the best solder chip?

4.)With soft mod, how can I load a game from the Wii's OS instead of having to load Gamma .03?

You will always get choppy Intro/Cut-scenes with Wiigator or any other Launcher because of the 3X limitation. There is really no way around it untill they unlock 6X speed.

Buying a modchip would fix the choppy Intro/Cut-scenes since it would read at the normal 6X speed.

But you could also try USB Loader. This loads games off of a USB Hard Drive. There is no lag and load times are sometimes quicker then normal 6X read speed of the DVD drive.

Thank you for the reply. It actually helped me in my decision a little. I have not quite delved into the world of USB loaders. So the problem with softmod is the actual hardware. The DVD drive inside the wii reads at 6x, but at 3x for DVD-R discs. So a USB loader would use the USB speed instead of the DVD- drive, thus improving the speed of loading/Movies.

1.) Is there a cap for the USB speed? I understand the Wii has USB 2.0 ports. Is that full speed at 12mbps or High Speed at 480mbps? Does the USB loader utilize the entire speed?

2.) Will any external DVD drive work? What about enclosures? Do you need to format any particular way to get it to work with Wii?

3.) Is it possible to rip your games onto the USB drive?

As far as USB Loader speed I have no idea what max speed is but load times are faster then the normal 6X via Wii DVD Drive.

Most USB drives are compatible.

You can use enclosures as long as the HDD is compatible.

You format the HDD to FAT32. From there the USB Loader or PC application (if you choose to use 1) will format the drive to WBFS format which is what the Wii file system uses.

You can rip the game to a USB device using the USB Loader or you can use a PC application that will transfer the game ISO from PC to the WBFS formated USB device.

You can get the USB loader GX and PC application HERE.

You will need cIOS36_rev9 or rev10 installed in order for the USB Loader to work. I recommend using cIOS36_rev9 since some games have issues with rev10.

Thank you. You have resolved my problem. I'm going to have to shell out the money for a hard drive, but at least I can use it for my PC if they fix the speeds for DVD-R. I only have a few questions left and I'm off to the store.

1.) Are there any hard drive size limitations?

2.) Is there a compatability list I should be aware of?

Try this list HERE.

I think a 500GB is the limit but I could be wrong. I use a 500GB myself.
