OK last weekend I finally got a PS3. Bought and HDMI and got home. I connected everything and fallowed the instructions. At the XMB when changing the display settings and I test the 1080p option I only get a black screen for about 30sec and goes back to what ever I had before (480p/720p/1080i). My TV is a Samsung LN40A550 that is Full 1080P and I also have a Sharp Aquos LC-32D64U that also claims Full 1080P, so I don't think this is a TV issue. But what can I do. Also, games that supposed to be 1080P I only get 1080i.
Any body know whats going on?

Alot of games are only 720p natively, so when u play them on the PS3, its upscaled by the TV, but isnt truely at 1080p (thus 1080i).... as for your xmb settings, no idea.

About games I know. Uncharted the game that came with the console it only shows 720p, but blue-rays are only shown at 1080i knowing that it should be at 1080p

The Madcatz cord says it will go up to 1080p in its description and specs. Rather odd problem.

Maybe your TV doesnt support 1080p only 1080i. That's the problem with technology these days so much jargen that you have to have read up on everything to make sure you are buying what you are buying.
I'm sure many sale reps in store have sold tonnes of 1080i only TV claiming them to be fully HD and support 1080p, when they dont.
So it couls be that the PS3 detects that your TV does not support 1080p and so doesnt not display that option.
And tests show that if the HDMI cable you are using is less than 10m then any brand will do be it the most expensive or cheapest they'll both do the same. Its only when you need cables greater than 10m where spending more on the expensive cables is necessary for a better picture.

When you are at the settings tick all the box's and save,i had the exact same problem with my Mirai 1080p,so i ticked all the boxs and that fixed the problem.

I can tick and save up to 1080i and when I try to tick and save 1080p it just goes black for 30 sec. I have tried every single port on both TV's.
