When i bought my Xbox 360, the salesman said that it was already modified but i don't know what firmware version i'm using. I Will buy Xbox 360 games next week but i've seen a lot of topics in this forum that you should upgrade to play new games. How will i know what firmware version i'm using? You can hook up your drive to the sata port like you were going to flash it(search for tutorials on how to flash your drive.)

You will have to take the xbox apart to do that, so you might as well take it apart to find out what drive you have. If its a Hitachi, pay attention to the ROM version, as there are quite a few. No matter what drive it is, if its already been flashed it will be easier to flash it a second time.

Go here

That site will show you how to tell what drive you have. I couldn't find a reference to how you can tell by taking your faceplate off, but I do know if its a Lite-On(the only one not shown on that site) you can see yellow wires through a hole once the faceplate is taken off.

Once you know that, just search for how to flash your drive. The only way to know what firmware you have is to dump the firmware, either with Jungle Flasher or another flashing program(again, search, there are quite a few now). Jungle Flasher and Firmware toolbox will both tell you if it is stock firmware or what version firmware it is.

Hope this helps

That is a good starting point. Search this forum(search bar at top, right next to the word "search". Feel free to google it.

With so many tuts on how to do it, I don't think anyone is going to type it out again. Not trying to be mean or anything, but many people wouldn't even reply to the first question, much less the second.

I'm not sure where to find it, so you really do have to search for this one, but if you are on a 32 bit OS, you can use Jungle flasher, so search for the tutorial on how to use it. It is a all-in-one flashing GUI. I personally cannot use it because I am on Vista 64 bit, but I have used it before and its good. Not to mention every thread in this forum has someone praising it somewhere in it, :-).

Alright I've been "lurking," on these boards like many people just reading about how to flash, well now I think I've read enough, watched, etc. I would like to know all in all what materials I would need to flash a beng drive with this laptop. (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFS740W). I don't know what drive and stuff I will need from this too. I modded my ps2, and I've open my 360 before too, so I mean what I need with the drive and addons to my comp?

The Jungle Flasher is the most up-to-date tutorial. I have it linked in my signature. It will guide you to a successful flash.
