Unique USB loader problem No dvd Drive

So a friend of mine brought me a wii the other day that he had tried to mod with a wii-key and made a big mess on the board, it was a wiikey 2 that had to be soldered to the legs and he made a big mess and even broke some of the legs off.

So i thought to myself hmm. what can i do to make this work besides replaceing the drive. So i thought of USB loader, heres where the problem began. I got an external drive that was small enough to fit inside the wii after i take out the broken drive. The USB cord comes out the front of the wii and goes around the side to plug in to the back.

Now i figured this would be the perfect solution to get this wii working again. Unfortunately i found out that the USB loader works by telling the Disk drive that there IS a game in the system therefore if the disk drive is not present or broken it wont boot games and gives the eject disk and reboot error.

Hopefully there is some fix for future USB loaders that it will not rely on the disk drive anymore maybe?

Or did i do something wrong.

Did you try using USB Loader with the DVD drive at least connected?

I know there was another user that had issues with their drive no longer working. So they ended up using USB Loader and it worked perfectly fine.

ahh yes i forgot to mention that i did put the broken drive back in and try the drive externally and still got the same problem.

My disk drive does not even accept the disks he's connected multiple points with solder that is too precise to undo.

If I remember correctly the guy that had issues was due to a bad laser. I think all that is required for the USB Loader to work is a working board. So if he screwed it up that much sounds like you will need to look out for a used or new drive or board.

Have you tried using some flux and a desoldering braid to try to unbridge the connections?

You also said some of the legs are borken so this might cause an issue also.

yeah i was going to unsolder it with a braid but when i noticed the legs missing i figured it wouldnt matter. I found a new pcb board on ebay for $20 i'm gonna buy that and that should not only fix the USB loader problem but also fix the disks reading problem so he'de have a fully functional wii again.

you're a good friend :) Even my best fiends i charge fee's to do their hacks and mods. I charge alot more for the idiots who doesnt know what they're doing and attempt it themselves and bring it to me to fix. My hat comes off to you sir ;)Good lukc with the board, from my experience that should solve your problem
