Ok this has stoped me buying jasper xbox360 from the store today:
The guy who does the flashing says he strongly recomend i purchase a 2nd DVD drive from him and flash it instead of the origninal drive because even if i dont connect the xbox to internet the new games might install firmware updates and screwup the flashed drive and if i flashed the original one instead of secondary i bought i might aswell throw away the xbox !
So was wondering if that storry is true and if so how much do flashed drives actually live ?

That's absolute bullshit. There are people here whose drives have been flashed since the Xbox 360 was released. Either your modder has no idea what he's doing or he wants to trick you into buying a drive you don't need.
Of course newer games might need firmware updates, but that's only the Xbox 360 firmware, not the drive's firmware.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Ok so what you are trying to say is that there is no chance newly released games can damage the drive by updating the firmware ?

NO, those are game updates, not firmware for your DVD drive. IF that were the case, don't you think M$ would have jacked up everyone's drives years ago? It's not even possible to do.

The way this moding guy explained it that new games contain kernel updates directx etc and some might even update to new version of firmware that has now been released 77.somethin that detects that the drive is flashed and poof the drive gets trashed. From what i have readed in this forum i came to conclusion that new games require updates otherwise they wont function with your console and the flashed drives die from too much updating aka firmware changes:)Sorry if i speak b.s but im total newbee at this just trying out before i buy the xbox cause i can only aford to buy one hehe !

He is speaking B.S. and tell him to show you where he got this information? Most likely give you some made up story on why he can't. Go elsewhere. Guys on here have been playing modded xboxes with no problems going on 2 years.

That's total bullshit again, this toppic you came up with was maybe a bad flash. I myself have been playing on my BenQ flashed for 1,25 years now (last 2 months online), done all updates, my newest game is Bionic Commando original and ripped myself. Never had any problems with this, because as I said earlier the updates (for example the NXE update) don't affect the drive.
I'm not even sure they are allowed to create an update that could trash the drive (could be considered a virus) and considering it's M$ we are talking about they would get a lot of innocent users too, like it was with the banwaves.

its complete b.s i have modded over 200 xbox 360's and i know a thing or two about the process microsoft has no way to affect the firmware on your drive updates are game updates that are saved on your hard drive or memory unit again nothing to do with the dvd drive if it was that easy to write information to the pcb board of your drive why would anyone need a connectivity kit or jungleflasher even. i assume you probobly have a liteon and since there is no way to restore liteon firmware to its original sate he would rather flash a sammy just to be safe or to get rid of access drives he has laying around since the release of ixtreme 1.5

I would go to a different modder.
No matter what, tell the modder you chose to back up the original firmware for you on a cd, you need that to replace the drive with any Xbox 360 drive if it ever dies.

Now where did you get that from again? That's bullshit again, you can flash any drive back to original firmware.
Getting the drive key from a lite on in the first place is a little more complicated than getting it from one of the other 3 drives. One (not recommended) possibility is soldering, which would be detected if you had to send the Xbox in.
All newer Xbox packages will come with a liteon, the last non lite ons were produced about a year ago.

not true there is no original firmware for liteons so how can you flash it back to its original state all you get is a key inquiry and identify in turn allows you to create a dummy.bin. the dummy.bin cannot be used as target firmware so you cannot revert the liteons back to thier original state

and why would you ever need to? Even if you send it in to M$, they don't check the firmware.

Ok so new jaspers come with the Liteon latest version does it still hold the software problem ?
I wana check out if this guy is really scamming me since there is lack of competent moders in my city. So lets say i go flash my xbox360 wich has liteon drive and it dies after some time will it be problem to replace it with another drive different or same model just because its Liteon since im not competent im not doing it myself so the question is can it be done by someone competent or not :)

If you are so worried, why don't you just flash it yourself? Pretty easy to do.

as long as you have the original key inquiry and identify files that are used from the extract you can replace it with any drive including another liteon
