I have a dvd drive modded xbox 360... Had it for a few yrs.. Iv seen the new dashboard that it available to download... now should I do this? will it stop backups from working?
BTW I believe it was one of the Arcade edition xbox's.. and it has had only the dvd drive software hack.. not sure of the version but I guess its old now.
The NXE won't mess with any of the firmware hacks. Though you do want to update your firmware if you're playing new games or playing online but if you only want the nxe for the new features and you don't play on live then just borrow a friends hard drive that has the nxe and it will automatically update your xbox when it boots.
Is there a firmware history anywhere? so that I can calculate which one I used and whether or not its worth trying to update it again..
so if I do not update the firmware on the dvd drive to the latest... it is likely that I will not be able to play online?... does this need to be done often?
you need to update to iextreme 1.6 if you have a sammy or benq drive, or iextreme 1.51 if you have a hitachi drive. this will allow you to be as safe as possible on LIVE, and will allow you to play the newer games such as HAWK, UFC, or anything that came out after resident evil 5 pretty much. your current firmware will not allow you to play these games.
if youre going to update your console yourself, then you will need to download a program called "jungle flasher". within this program there is a great tutorial on how to update your drive. just find out which one you have, and read that section. then if you have any more questions please come back and ask away.

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.
