so just want to know what is best option. buying system to flash for my buddy and he only got about 200 to spend, but he is also worried about RRoDs. so two options i have narrowed it down to are...
1. Arcade system but sure comes with that liteon drive and i dont have to tool to do so so would have to buy it not to mention i dont know how to use the tool and have tried searching for a tutorial or video just explaining how to use.
2. found older 360 (manufacturer date is 2006) but guy has several for sale all which have 12v fan, and twin fans (not sure if they are same thing twin fan and this 12v fan) but claims that that its a good system and with the fan pretty much takes care of RRoD at least with over heating issues. but selling that for about 180 with two controllers and 20g HD.
now which is better deal. i get extra controller and 20g HD but its older and possible at more risk, but arcade one comes with less but is cheap but i need tool for it that i dont have and need to buy and no idea how to use it. sure its not hard but its my friends money so what safer bet to the money he willing to part with?

i wouldnt trust the older 360 ... you dont know what its been through... he might have installed the fans cause it was already getting RRoD... it may already have things like xclamp fix and penny trick... not worth the risk imho
the brand new 360 will be the latest motherboard which has much less risk of RRoD without any extra modifications...
if you're really hard up for money you 'could' make your own liteon key extractor... link::

get the 360 pro version now. as mention above it comes with a Ethernet cable, HDMI cable 2 controllers one with a battery pack, and a 60 gig hard drive instead of the 20 gig. I have had my xbox for about a year now and it still works like new. no red ring of death on the new models and the variety of games is excellent with halo 3 being the main reason. The online capabilities are cool with the market place and the DLC being really easy to access. the only down side is you can only have 100 friends and you have to pay for the online gaming part of the system. silver is free but gold is required for online game play. and if you dont have a HD tv then you dont get the full experience and it looks like crap. Other then that the system is incredible and far better then the PS3 not that i have anything against it i own a PS2. hope this helps you make a good decision, add me if you get one. my gamer tag is }ShadowSnip3r117

isnt that over 200 like closer on the 300 side? he really isnt gonna spend to much over his 200 limit. so why he is sticking to arcade.

yeah, I'd stick with the new 360. I had the same option a couple weeks ago and I went ahead and bought a arcade. Comes with what I needed, seeing as I had a pro previously and got fed up with it screwing up so bought a jasper model.
I still had my controllers, ethernet cable, all of that, so I just needed the console. The arcade games and new controller were just a plus.
But anyways, I'd get the arcade, and down the road you can get the upgrade pack, wal-mart sells them for $100, comes with the 60 gig HD, headset, and xbox live membership I believe, which is a good enough deal. Until then, you should be able to live with the built-in memory(I believe the arcades have it, correct me if I'm wrong) as long as you don't download a lot. Works fine for game saves.

It depends if he is going to go on xbox live. I would suggest buying the arcade (then buying a 20gb hdd off ebay for $20). The arcade only comes with 250mb mrmory stick, which is barely enough for one game (I've used up 2gb on halo 3 just by savings maps etc)

the 250 megs would be enough for about 3-4 games. since most of mine are around 50-80 megs per game for the save files.

Your saving some hefty Sh!t wabashman. I don't think any of mine are over 10 megs, lol. Well all except COD4, but thats because of the map pack I believe.

Holy ... what games are you talking about? I had over 20 gamesaves, the NXE update and my profile saved on my 250 MB memorycard and it was only half full when I got my harddrive. Still use it for my gamesaves.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

NXE should be on your consoles cache, not the HDD. Atleast thats what i think because it doesn't go away when you take the HDD off.

nah just the tv, 360, dvd player is. all running through a 7.1 surround being shown on a 120 inch screen via hdmi. looks nice once the bulb is all warmed up and its not to bright in the room.

Sweet, I am looking at getting a HD projector to replace my tv. They are not much more than LCD's are. I was looking at one that was full HD, had a higher contrast ratio than a lot of LCDs, and had a 30-300" picture size...Thats 25 feet diagonal, lol. 25 FEET. I seriously would be shooting that at the side of my house for some COD4 or the Super Bowl.

the projector i have is an infocus 7200 series. its an older projector but still is great. plus you can get a whole new projector on ebay for less than what a bulb costs. but honestly, i dont know if i would go any larger than 10 foot. perhaps 12 at the most, the people on the screen are already life sized, i dont need to them to look like super huge giants. but it does make it nice for gaming.

Yeah, it would make for really nice gaming. I just can't quit imagining playing Resident Evil and having the zombies running at me...15 foot tall zombies...
I think they cost $1500 new, which really isn't a bad price considering a 46" LCD is around $1200. My Tv is nearing the end of its life cycle, so I believe 15 foot zombies are in the near future.

just make sure you get a good screen for it to be shown on, otherwise you pretty much wasted your money. mine is a da-lite screen. not sure what the gain on it is, but that usually depends on what projector you end up getting. also make sure its in a room where it either has no windows, or you have some really good black out blinds.

Yeah. I have an extra room I've been thinking about turning into a media room of sorts. Putting in a good surround sound, nice picture, all the goodies. I could always just board up the windows, lol.

Not all of it, there are some parts installed on your harddrive, for example your avatar and some reserved space for downloaded stuff. After I formatted my memorystick and before I got Live and the Wave 3 games were released my profile worked, I just couldn't get my avatar to show up, but I had the new dashboard and when I tried to do the update by CD it told me that. Was kind of annoying only to have this grey figure. Also I had to do the update when I played my first wave 3 game.

Just get a new console and buy the probe tool. Lite-ons are extremely easy to flash, just follow the guide from jungle flasher. You can get it from there site or from the actual program as a pdf.
When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.

Nice, my friend has a 7210, they're quite good projectors. But i wouldn't buy one off ebay, go on tigerdirect.com, most of their pj's are cheaper than those at ebay (and tiger is a lot more trustworthy). If you're buying a pj just to play 360, then I'd suggest a natural 720p. Most 360 games are 720p, so with a 1080p pj (full hd) the inage has be upscaled, creating a quite pixelated image (but still a very good image). You can get a Sharp DT-510, Infocus X9 and Optoma HD72 (all very good projectors) for about $550 usd (+shipping). I have an Optoma and the image looks great.
About the screen, it really depends on your pj, an Infocus x9 (bad black levels) would need a light grey to improve black levels, but it changes with each pj. I really would suggest not to buy a screen (especially a fold-up one, which i've heard gets wrinkles over time), if your pj is in a fixed position, then you can paint your wall a satin bright white, with flat black border. You can also get "Do-Able" MDF (from home depot etc) and wrap the edges in anti-reflective velvet then just paint as suggested above (go to avs forums [just search on google] they helped me a lot with my pj, there's many experienced people to help you out [there's a whole forum dedicated to DIY pj screens])
On topic: I don't know how you can fit 5+ game saves on 250 mb... a normal halo custom is like 30mb. It might be different for some, but i would definately get a hdd for xbox live

Go buy a new console. $200+tax and $20 for a spear is nothing considering all that you get. Look for "12.1" around the serial number on the back of the console to make sure you get a jasper (best motherboard cpu/gpu set at the moment).

back on topic though, i should have some refurbed units back from MS here in a couple of weeks. just sent two out today to get repaired. both have a 20 gig HD, controller, a/v cables and will be modded with 1.6 when i get them back. i can let one go for around 200 if you still need one by then.

yea i have a problem waiting for something i want. when i want it, i want it then, not months down the road, which is why i choose ebay for them, because they have them when i want them, and for a cheap price. and more than likely, the ones on TD dont come with a new bulb like all the ones i buy on ebay do.
