OK.....i got dvd x copy platinum and thought i had the ultimate and then i come to a site like this and see all the options!

so here's the deal....i come from a music background where compressing a file is a bad thing to do....mp3s are garbage to me....

so when i first learned that peeps were compressing the movies to fit on one disc i didn't like that...

i then learned that dvd x copy will allow you to put the movie on 2 discs with no compression......that appealed to me..i don't care about the extra discs and what i'm looking for is THE bit for bit CLONE....

now.....YOU guys are the experts....i at this point know NOTHING....

talk to me! :D

what should i use to get the perfect clone, video and audiowise????

i'm not worried about level of difficulty...time to make and burn etc.

all i want is the best damn burn...

thanks much! :)

hi brick
You need a couple free programs, dvd shrink and dvd decrypter.Dvd shrink is used for the majority of your backup needs, and decrypter is for the stubborn ones that shrink cant crack. With dvd shrink you can strip out extras like different languages, menus, subtitles, directors commentaries, etc. This is some of the ways you can hold the compression down,or in your case,if you dont need the menu, you can split the dvd in the reauthor mode to put it on as many discs as you need.Compression is a bad thing but you can hold it down where its not noticable.

dvd shrink download here... http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

decrypter download here..http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

very easy to follow guides for shrink..http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php
http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/user_guides.htm

guide for decrypter..http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php

dvd shrink can work with dvd decrypter to rip shrink and burn all completely free!!
It isnt the perfect clone but its close!

beats the heck out of what you paid for x copy which im understanding is overpriced and not very good.

easy as falling off a log!!
good luck and welcome to the hood

True 1:1 copies incl. menu + extras is only round the corner , when dual layer writers go on sale (not long now) ;-)

IFOedit/DVDStripper , DVDxCopy (forget what version) ...etc

There are options if you look about & have a good read up mate.

noice - i'm damn busy at the moment...so i'll get to it tomorrow....haha...i was thinking your petition had something to do with your handle/swirling picture ;)

anyhoo - i think i may also need to clarify my question here -

i really don't want to do compression....using 2 discs doesn't bother me....

so the question is ....is there any program that does this better??

does zero compression on one program = zero compression on another??

both will produce identical results?

The program you want to seriously look into is DVDFab. Better than XCopy primarily because there's no 321 Warning screen

It has a trial version - try it, it's very good -

http://www.dvdfab.com/

You'll need a ripper -

DVD43 - Free
Decrypter - Free (excellent)
AnyDVD - $40.00
Region Free - $40.00

When you trim the trailers and extras off and backup a "Movie only", to a single DVD disc, the compression effect on the video and audio is more theoretical than actual. The human ear/eye can't tell the difference :-)

Enjoy,

Pete

Hi guys,

Here's a few guides how to split a DVD onto two separate discs:

1) With DVDFab

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdfab-fullsplit.htm

2) With IFOEdit (free tool)

http://www.mpegit.net/eng_DVD-R_3.php

or

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/ifoedit-2dvdrs.htm

3) With DVDStripper (also a free tool)

http://www.mpegit.net/dvdstripper_splitting.php

I myself have used DVDFab for this process, I have an old version of it which was still free at the time. If I wouldn't have DVDFab I would propably go for the DVDStripper approach, but that's just my preference.

Well I hope this helps!

The InterVideo people claim to make the most exact backup out there using their IBBP technology which matches the original's bitrate changes. And you can can use either 1 or 2 discs.
