Anyway...
Just got my 2nd older 360 from some dude and it just started acting weird.
It wont read 360 disks as games, just dvds. However it will read original xbox games fine. The disks are not scrached and work perfectly in my 1st 360.
I have tryed replacing the dvd drive, checked all the voltages, tried starting the xbox with nothing plugged in, and only about 1/100 times it will read the 360 game as a game. and sometime after that if fails to boot the game.
Personally i think it has to do with the copy protection not working properly (no clue how that would be the case)becuse its only 360 games it has a problem recognizing correctly.
There is however one way i can increase the chance the game will load properly. I have to Turn the 360 on, shut it off, unplug the power prick from the wall, turn the 360 on (to discharge the power in the compasators) plug it back in, and turn it on with the disk in the drive. Even if i have the 360 boot to the dashboard it will most likly load the game right.
ATM im in IT class, i will be happy to profide more information around 4pm pacific time.
Does anyone know what else my cause this problem?

its not a copyright error that causing the problem. more than likely the laser is going out. the reason it will read original xbox 1 games and movies is because it takes less of a laser strength to read them than the dual layer discs that 360 games are on. if i were you i would either replace the laser, or the entire drive. if it was me, i would replace the drive as i find it easier than replacing the laser itself.

when you changed the drive out, did you bother flashing your original drives FW to the new drives? if not then the only thing it would play would be movies or cds.

ok.. let me put this a different way. The xbox will read dvd movies andx xbox games pwerfectly well.. however it takes about 50-100 times (no joke) of ejecting the game and putting it back in, to get it to read any 360 game as a game and not a dvd movie... no madder what dvd drive i put in the console
