Hi all, first off, I recently did my first flash and I wanted to thank everyone here for all of the info and guidance, it's greatly appreciated!

Now, I don't plan on making this a habit because I don't like being responsible for other people's property, but my best friend is running older firmware and he wants me to update his drive. He has a BenQ drive and I don't have a connectivity kit. My question is, how would I go about doing this? To get into vendor mode would I eject the tray then pull the power plug before pushing the tray halfway in or what?

You can use the SATA port on your computer,if you don't have one you can buy a SATA card with a VIA6421 chipset for cheap on Newegg HERE, and you use the 360 for power. Theres a guide on how to do it using JungleFlasher HERE The half-way open drive method will work depending on the current firmware installed, but the guide will tell you what methods will work to get the drive into vendor mode.

Thanks for the attempt, but I already know all that. I've already flashed my Samsung drive, I'm just asking about flashing the BenQ. I know what all you have to do but I'm saying, I've seen alot of people use the connectivity kit to get the drive half open (vendor mode). I don't have the c.k. so I'm wanting to know if I just eject the tray, then pull the power plug, push the tray halfway in, then plug the power back in or what... does that make sense? I've already got the sata card and I'm using the 360 as the power source, like I said, I've already flashed a Sammy... but I didn't have to get it into vendor mode so I didn't mess with buying the connectivity kit.

Use jungle flash and follow guide, I just did an upgrade on a Benq from 1.41 to 1.6 and didn't need to do the half tray open as it was already on CFW.

to answer your question about turning it on, ejecting, pushing the tray half in, and plugging it back in. this would work as i recall reading this in the JF guide for flashing lite-ons that have to be in the half tray mode.
