Well, so i downloaded Max Payne 2 via Live Marketplace, started it up and received the error message that the game could not start -"Please download the game again". So i did, a few times with the same result. In then remembered reading something about the backward compatibility needing an update to work so i headed to xbox.com to read up. As i was reading i wondered why no automatic update had been prompted onto me as i was trying to start my digital copy of Max Payne 2, so i called Xbox support to ask. They said they had no idea and i should try downloading the .xex file from 2007 and burn it onto a dvd disc and try updating it that way. So i did. Update seemed to go fine, with one small detail...i still get the "Please download the game again" error message. I then tried a retail copy of Red Dead Revolver, which before the update had at least been recognized as a copy of Red Dead revolver, but now was merely recognized as a "DVD media" and the intro splash screen played like one and then froze...
What...the...h***...is going on here?
Anyone? I mean, why isn't live updating the console automatically when i try to play Max Payne 2 for example? I mean, the .xex file from 2007 most likely do not contain the update for MP 2, nor does it seem to contain the update for Red Dead so what am i supposed to do here?
Appreciate any help on this, i'm frustrated and stuck.
That's weird, and I've looked on xbox.com and other sites, and they really don't discuss how to fix it. So that's pretty lame! Do you know if that game was restricted for a certain region? Like sometimes people that live in a different region will change their location just so that they can get a game that is for a specific region.
Well, my console is PAL and the Red Dead copy is PAL. Regarding the digital copy of MP 2 i'm sure it's PAL too as my Live profile clearly states where i'm located.
This is very frustrating as Xbox support is clueless and i just bought a bunch of original Xbox games to play, including Thief 3. What a pity, hopefully i can get this solved asap.
i think the backwards compatibility update is fro playing xbox 1 games from disc. downloading from marketplace is different. so if you paid for it over marketplace and it doesnt work you need to call MS support. also when u say you downloaded it over did you first delete the previous one that didnt work? if not then i would try that and if it doesnt work then call MS.
and this has nothing to do with modding so calling ms wont hurt.

Yeah, your console would of already had the backwards compatiblitiy update on it if you have connected to live, so the disc was a waste of time.
So this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that my 360's drive is flashed? In that case i'll pursue this further with MS. Weird that the update is not automatically applied as i'm 100% connected to live, obviously, since i did download the game from marketplace.
since u got it from marketplace and it isnt on a disc then it should have nothing to do with a modded dvd drive. Now a modded HDD might be a diff story.
