My dad bought me a US wii console in Kuala Lumpur. He was reassured that it had already been modded to play both US and UK games. He was also sold some copy discs. The console does play US and UK games. It also plays the copy discs. However, it hasn't played any copy disc I have made myself. It also doesn't run wii fit or dancing stage (these are the only ones I've tried that are unhappy so far).
I decided to take it apart to find out what the modchip was, and then move forward from there in researching what was going wrong with my copy discs. I already looked at several threads discussing problems playing copy discs, have tried the solutions, and want to check whether it's the chip.
However...can anyone decide what this chip is?! Thanks

Wiikey 1 or a clone of it.
Use high quality DVD-R media (Verbatim or Tayio Yuden are most recommended).
Burn with IMGBurn at 4X or half the rated speed of the media.
Make sure the Wiikey has latest update (1.9s is latest I think).
Not all Import games (UK) will be compatible. Go HERE for a region compatibility list.

Thanks a lot for your help, this was just what I was looking for.
When I originally tried I burned with IMGBurn on Verbatim. I burned a US game, and technically it did sort of work. I got to loading and then got the horrifying error #001 message.
I'll see if it will update once I get the thing back together.

Yeah its slower but im not wasting media. You may also wanna look into what version firmware that chip has and possibly update it to the latest and greatest 1.9S IF thats an Legit Wiikey and not a cloan.

I should of let it go myself but I couldn't.
It is kind of hard to mistake a Wiikey 1 or a Clone when you see one. More then likely they are thinking of the Wiikey 2 which does look different then the Original Wiikey.

They have all the connections bridged on the chip directly to the board, so I'm not seeing a reason for extra wires. It could be a newer version of the Wii that Wiikey v1 didnt support, and they somehow bridged it all together with wires... honestly at this point who knows. But I looked and compared pictures, thats an original wiikey.

The extra wires is due to 3 of the pins being cut on the chipset. So the 3 points of the normal instillation will not work due to the cut pins. So wires are used to go from the points of the cut pins to the top of the chipset where the pins are cut.
If you look close enough the wires are looped over the chipset and come back to the top of the chipset where the pins are cut.
