Hello to all! I am going to apologize for my long thread right off the bat.

I am interested in chipping my xbox and getting starting backing up my games. I read many of posts but for the experts, i have a couple of questions. Now please note, i an not computer illiterate at all but when it comes to this i have ABSOLUETLY no clue so maybe many of you people can help me out.

Ok i understand first thing i have to do is buy a chip. Now i ask, WHAT SHOULD I BUY? I want a solderless chip. I have a v1.0 xbox. What do you guys recommend. All i am looking to do is INSTALL THE CHIP, backup games. Thats it really. I am confused on this FLASHING the chip and all of this stuff. Is it easy? Do i have to buy anything seperate to FLASH a chip and put on a DASHBOARD on the hard drive of my xbox? I dont quite understand (hence the illiterate part ;). I am not too concerned about extras nor do i want to go through any other UNNECCESSARY steps like installing switches or something that i saw (with xlite 2.3? or something like that). So i ask what is the best chip for my preferences?

Secondly, do i need a DVD BURNER or could i just use a regular cd burner? I would assume i would need the dvd to hold more info but i am unsure and i cant find any info EXACTLY to that on here. Any help would be appreciated on that.

Lastly, but im sure no where near least, how EXACTLY do i ftp to my xbox. I am so confused on this and i read so many posts but to be honest, just so lost. If someone could help me out on that that would be perfect. Thanks

I would ask what is the best and most reliable place to get the chips recommended but from what i understand, its illegal to list them here. If possible, if someone could email me that would be great but if not no big deal. I APPRECIATE ALL OF THE HELP. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

well if you want a solderless chips a good chip would be the xecuter 2.3blite+, very easy to install. you'll have to flash your chip with the latest bios (4981). a good lace to buy the chip would be (www.modchip.ca). You'll also need to intall evolutionx this is a replacement dashboard the lets you FTP to your Xbox. You do not need a bigger Hard drive, UNLESS you want to backup games to you Hard drive, and no you do not need a new DVD rom in your xbox. Finall you will need a DVD burner!! games burned to CD-R are just plain slow.

for more in depth info on modding go to http://www.xbox-scene.com

also search for seamonkey's guides for FTP instructions on google

I would get a dvd burner if i was you but you don't have to. I have a version 1 xbox with a thompson drive, i tried for weeks but it wouldn't even read a cd-rw. I tried dvd-r and have never had any problems.

Guys thanks for the quick response. I just bought xecuter 2.3b lite+. I guess i have no choice but to buy a dvd burner as well. Where can i get a new DVD for my xbox? Are there faster ones? I thought i saw instructions on how to replace the one in your xbox but cant seem to find it anywhere anymore.

Ok let me see if i did this correctly. I downloaded evolution x 3935 to my pc. I used xiso to create an iso file of that WHOLE folder (i renamed evox.xbe to default.xbe and evox.ini modified to my liking and made sure those were in the root). I wanted to use craxtion but it comes up with an error. Maybe someone can assist me with that. The error reads

"Invalid Arguments Passed! IsoCraxtion Usage: IsoCraxtion -x iso_namedirectory_to_extract_to"

This is all when i am trying to open up the IsoCraxtion.exe file. Dont know why.

So anyways i created this xbox.iso file. I also Downloaded evoxm7. Am i on the right step so far?

Why do you feel the need to buy a DVD player? Im no expert on modding but wouldn't you only need a DVD player if you plan to make backups of your games on DVDS? You can make backups on your hard drive instead and save yourself the money of buying a DVD player.

Can I ask where you found the EvolutionX software? I know its against forum rules to post a link but can you email me? nvh711@yahoo.com

Well i am looking to buy a dvd player to back up my games. I dont plan on buying a new hard drive YET, so there is one reason. Another would be because i get free dvd r discs. We will see how this works
