Im pooped out guys, i have only got three game discs to work and there after NONE of my games have worked. They all just say there was an error with the disc in the middle of the game. I use memorex DVD-R discs. But now im sick of trying so im going to try the whole Extrnal hardrive thing. So my question is. Can i play my games from rar files or do they have to be solid ISO files in order for them to work on the wii because i dont have a big size harddrive.

you cant play games that are in zip format that are archived. You want more space go buy an external harddrive with a usb connector that has a terabyte for 80 dollars its cheap. If you dont know how to do it pay someone to do it for you.

dude they have to be ISO's. I a similar problem when extracting the iso's from rar because my external HD is formatted to FAT32 which doesnt support files bigger than 4.2gb or something like that. Extract the iso's temporarily to your main HD (not external) in your computer then burn and delete after if you wish. If you get an external harddrive, make sure you format it to NTFS, or WBFS for wii.

That error in the middle of a game sounds like a disc problem to me.

You might want to take a look here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

Personally when I did use discs (I use USB launcher now) I used Sony DVD-Rs made in Malaysia (SONY16D1) and have never had a problem with them. Make sure to use ImgBurn and burn at 4x speed.

As for the USB launcher, It uses it's own file system WBFS (Wii Backup File System). This will be what your drive will have to be formatted to. As mentioned they do have to be in iso form.

When you add them to the drive either by use of your Wii or by using your computer and WBFS Manager they will usually be smaller in size.

This is because pretty much all Wii discs are 4.37 GB in size but after the actual game data the rest is filled with useless garbage data to fill the rest of the space. The junk data is removed when adding to the hard drive.

I have a 320 GB hard drive in which I made two partitions. 200 GB WBFS and 100 GB FAT32. This way Mplayer can also access the hard drive as well as whatever else that uses USB.

Sounds like you are using a hard drive that you already owned but just in case you were buying one you might want to take a look at: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/U...patibility_List

I can't say for sure but on more than one occasion I have burned games that just stopped working after a while.
Sometimes they were slightly scratched/smudged but more importantly I came to the realization that the media that you burn stuff on really is important.

Sometimes in the very same stack of discs you might burn something the exact same way and it won't work the first time but it will the second.

Couple that with Memorex having so many manufactures IDs it's hard to be sure of the quality of their discs by just looking at the case when you go to the store. Personally I just stay away from them.

If you get a chance, try running one of your blank Memorex DVDs through DVD Identifier and see what the Manufacturer's ID is.

A card reader that reads SD cards and connects through the USB?
I haven't tried that, but the latest release of the USB loader (1.5) is supposed to be able to load backups from an SD card. It changed from the USB loader to the SD/USB Loader in 1.2

You should probably try something small like Wii Sports

You can see the changes here
http://www.teknoconsolas.es/blogs/waninkoko

And once you get the hang of the USB loader you should also check out USB Loader GX. Has a bunch of features.

Glad to here that it working for you.

As for a channel there are two options.
Both of which involve installing wads using wad manager.

I'm not the best at explaining it but I'll do my best.
They are both wads but we will call the first one the wad installation to differentiate it from the forwarder installation.

When you do the wad installation the link to the actual USB Loader GX is there on your Wii System Menu. This is separate from the apps folder of your SD card.

When you do the forwarder installation, the forwarder loads whatever dol is located in the folder that it has been set to load.

So if you wanted to update the loader all you would have to do is replace the boot.dol in the USB Loader folder.

With the wad, you would have to use wad manager again to uninstall the wad (channel) of USB loader and install the new version.

I don't know how much experience you have installing wads. It is relatively painless when everything goes right. But just a word of warning, a bad wad can brick your Wii. Banner brick is the appropriate term.

I wouldn't expect a wad made for the USB Loader to brick your Wii but there are horror stories from wads for other things. Just keep that in mind.

I have never been bricked by a wad but I do recommend taking a look at Bootmii if you ever get interested in the more "intense" side of Wii homebrew.

http://bootmii.org/

By the way, what did you use with the loader? External hard drive? Flash drive? Card reader? SD card? etc.

Dont know if you meant the card read or sonic lol.

For the card reader...i havent had any problems so far, plays awesome....even though i only have like 3.80gb on it so i can only put like 1 to 2 games on it at a time.

For sonic, ehh honestly it was fun but personally i think sonic and the secret rings was way more fun. i was ANNOYED with the sword movement in boss battles, it drove me f.ing nuts!! And the shadow(lancelot) battle was just ridiculous....you hit him a couple times and its a k.o.

I'm all late but anyway, wow Sonic and the Black Knight, that was less than 4 hours (unless you began before of course)

It's pretty interesting to hear that the card reader works that well.

And to JParkes, yeah Bootmii can save your Wii if you brick it.
It is before the System Menu.

In the process of loading that you can't see while the system is starting up the order is Boot0, Boot1, Boot2, then the System Menu
Bootmii is placed before Boot2 (And Boot0 and 1 can't be changed)

So if you have a "relatively" moderate brick like a banner brick (a bad wad was installed) and the system menu can't load itself then all you have to do is use Bootmii to start the homebrew channel instead of the system menu and from there you can uninstall the evil wad that was causing your system menu not to load.

With Bootmii you can also back up your nand to an SD card and put it on your computer if you want.
So if you have an evil monster brick such as you deleted the System Menu (in which case if you didn't have a backup of your nand your only option would be to send it to Nintendo)you can use Bootmii to restore your system.

I like it, it makes me feel safe. I feel like I can install all the wads that I want where before I definitely would have reservations.
It can't be installed as boot2 on all Wiis though. Nintendo has been increasing security a lot since the latter half of 2008.

Proof that deleting your system menu does really brick your Wii (haha): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCLRWaNTMf4
Someone deleting there system menu and restoring it with Bootmii: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBZPl-ZtSaU#

Also there is supposed to be new homebrew developed for it eventually such as a custom system menu.

I've been thinking about getting a DS eventually as well.
There is a lot I need to read about it first though.
