Yeah man, kinda sad because i thought i would have a ds by now...Kingdom hearts (The reason why im getting a ds) just came out today O_O. So im kinda looking stupid with no DS and a cart for the DS which gives me the ability to play back-ups

Oh and i got a question for one of you guys. If animal crossing is only 0.31gb than is there a way i could make it a channel on the wii?

Yeah, I'm interested in Kingdom Hearts as well. Although I still need to play the second one on PS2.

As for making a channel out of a game, it's definitely possible but it isn't something that I really have experience with. I've read about it but I really hate leading people in the wrong direction (even slightly) so unless I can say why you are doing this step or that step I tend to shy away.

Also if you are going to start installing a bunch of wads (which a game channel would be) I would investigate brick protection first (the best of which is bootmii as boot2 right now)

If you brick without brick protection you will not be able to get your system back to normal without spending money.

Wow man, you never played the second one? Trust me, thats the best one!! I love the reaction button pressing on it. I actually just read a new article today that KH 1 & 2 are coming out for the wii. Cool right?? But yeah, i only want animal crossing as a channel....i think it would be cool to have it on a channel since its like a game you should play everyday. But defiantly pick up KH2

It's pretty interesting to hear that the card reader works that well.

And to JParkes, yeah Bootmii can save your Wii if you brick it.
It is before the System Menu.

In the process of loading that you can't see while the system is starting up the order is Boot0, Boot1, Boot2, then the System Menu
Bootmii is placed before Boot2 (And Boot0 and 1 can't be changed)

So if you have a "relatively" moderate brick like a banner brick (a bad wad was installed) and the system menu can't load itself then all you have to do is use Bootmii to start the homebrew channel instead of the system menu and from there you can uninstall the evil wad that was causing your system menu not to load.

With Bootmii you can also back up your nand to an SD card and put it on your computer if you want.
So if you have an evil monster brick such as you deleted the System Menu (in which case if you didn't have a backup of your nand your only option would be to send it to Nintendo)you can use Bootmii to restore your system.

I like it, it makes me feel safe. I feel like I can install all the wads that I want where before I definitely would have reservations.
It can't be installed as boot2 on all Wiis though. Nintendo has been increasing security a lot since the latter half of 2008.

Proof that deleting your system menu does really brick your Wii (haha): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCLRWaNTMf4
Someone deleting there system menu and restoring it with Bootmii: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBZPl-ZtSaU#

Also there is supposed to be new homebrew developed for it eventually such as a custom system menu.

Might have to install BootMii. I am really scared of bricking my wii because its a family wii, not my own. My family would kill me lol. Is there a guide to installing bootmii?
I'm the same with DS, quite fancy it but have to read up on it. I read up on it about 2 years ago and heard about the passkey stuff for loading roms, but the passkeys were physically ugly, but now they seem to be more inconspicuous. I was thinking about the PSP but it seems very complicated.

Yeah that's why i moved to the ds because i read about the psp and how you got to have certain ones and stuff so it really lost my interest. The ds however, is very easy. You just buy a certain cart the size of a ds game and it lets you slide an SD card in with roms and back ups than BOOM. Before you know it your playing back ups. Also same here, mines is kinda like mines/my family's. My dad bought it for a late Christmas gift so whenever I'd try to sell it, he automatically says its wink wink "not mines".

Yeah I will definitely give Kingdom Hearts II a try.
Thanks for the recommendation Newnie, Jparkes.
Ha, I'm behind in a lot of stuff.

I didn't even know anything about KH and Wii or anything.

As for installing Bootmii it's pretty easy. You just download it and add it to the homebrew channel like any other homebrew app.
Just remember to rename installer (or whatever it is called) from installer.elf to boot.elf

The only thing is that not all Wiis can have Bootmii installed as Boot2. Nintendo has been cracking down. Installing Bootmii as an IOS doesn't offer the protection that installing it as Boot2 does.

i'll probs try installing it now. The installer goes in apps right?
Just read this and it says that BootMii could brick my wii. My serial starts with LEH1, and I bought it Easter 2008. Will I be able to install it on boot2? The wiimote cant be used in bootmii?

Yeah it goes in apps.

:)
Don't be scared. You'll be fine. It's relatively painless... well not even relatively painless, it's just painless.

It could brick your Wii in the same way that Wad Manager could brick your Wii or any non Nintendo unofficial software could.

The installer will tell you whether it can be installed as boot2 or not.
Easter 2008 should be fine. Word is that the Wiis sold toward the end of 2008 are the ones that will have problems.

Currently you can't use the Wii Remote with Bootmii however they did say that this will be fixed eventually.
To cycle through options you have to use the power button. To select something you use the reset button. Or you could use a Gamecube controller.
If you don't want bootmii bothering you every time you turn on your Wii you can:
1. remove the SD card
2. rename the folder that the bootmii installation placed on your sd card during installation to something else and change it back to bootmii when you want to use bootmii
3. Edit one of the files in the bootmii folder in a text reader (which one it is escapes me right now) and change it to load the system menu. Bootmii will still coming up but it will switch from bootmii to the system menu in 5 seconds (This is what I did)

Cheers for the info AMatthews. Shame that the normal wiimote doesnt work with bootmii though, hope they fix it soon. I will try modifying the files after install of bootmii so it doesnt launch everytime i turn it on. Might be a good option because many people recommend a completely different SD card for the install but I havent got one handy.

Uh oh, actually I can't seem to find where I heard that. Don't take it as for sure.
All I am able to find is this http://bugs.hackmii.com/index.php?do=details&task_id=21

I thought it was supposed to be here http://bugs.hackmii.com/index.php?do=ind...tch=1&pagenum=1

We'll just have to wait and see.

Finally, if you edit the file Bootmii will still come up. It will just go to whatever you set it to after 5 seconds. (Well actually I think you can set the amount of seconds in Beta2)
I think edited the .ini file with a text editor.
Can't quite remember what it says but you have set it as systemmenu
