Gday guys

Just been told that in the 360 manual it says that you should plug your 360 directly into a wall outlet, and not run it through an extension cord/4 or 6 power outlet etc....

Any truth to this?

Cheers

That is what they prefer, but I have always had mine ran through a surge protector along with my DVR, Wii, USB harddrive, an Oscillating fan, and a small surround sound system. Never really noticed a problem with it.

I guess its all about preference, but the newer xbox's use a lot less power than the older ones, so I don't really see a problem with it.

could also be because the 360s power brick has a built in surge protector and having it plugged into another surge protector causes conflicts and doesnt actually protect it??? (not sure if it does have a built in one or not).

I know it has some built in feature, ever seen it go red? Lol, I've only seen one do it, atleast I believe it was red..but I do know the power supply will cut off if there is a problem.

I don't think multiple surge protectors would affect it and cause it to not be protected, If the power surge made it past the surge protector plugged into the wall outlet, the power supply would then be left to catch the fault. I suppose it would cut the likely-hood of a surge damaging your console.

Just my speculation. The main thing is making sure that what is plugged into the outlet, either with a surge protector or without, doesn't exceep the safe capacity of the wiring and circuit breaker. They are only made to handle so much, after that the wires get too hot, if the breaker doesn't fault it could be a fire hazard. But this is an extreme with most breakers, 20 amps is a pretty good bit to pull. As long as you don't plug stuff like heaters or AC's or other big power consumers into the same circuit, it shouldn't be a problem.

Well well, a little egotistical now arent we, lol. I just took a look at page 1, you have a ways to go, even without my posts, lol. BurningAs seems to have you beat considerably. I only post on threads that I think I could have something to add to it, or if its interesting enough that I can't help it.

But if you must, say hey on every thread on page 1, ;-).
Maybe the mods will overlook it, lol

And I've seen your name on dozens of threads, lol. Half the time when I log on your name is all over the place. I spend probably 30 minutes each day reading all the threads that make you say "WTF?!". I just wonder if those people realize that their questions are answered millions of times, or that no one can actually understand their question.

Well you need to refresh your page or something then. Because when I first posted in this thread I had all of burnings threads taken care off. (I put a mob hit on them). But now it seriously is time for bed. Being up 22 hours today is long enough for me. Nite all.

I usually run both 360's thru extension sockets, but decent ones, ie surge protector extension sockets.
Sometimes the electric breakers tripp out (just doing their job) so recently hooked up the one 360 up to a spare 1000VA UPS for some extra protection.

I have no idea if there's any extra protection in the 360's own power brick, will have to do some googling...

I've gone with just plugging it into a 4 outlet surge protected board.

Indeed, i've been using extension sockets/surge protectors/surge protector sockets (and UPS'es) since Victorian times. I suspect MS just advise people against extension sockets due to the proverbial teenagers who plug hundreds of plugs into too few sockets

I think they should let it be, let those irresponsible teenagers plug too many things in. Nothing worse than being half-way through the fight with the End Boss on a game, with you finally winning for once, and a breaker trips, :-).

Evil I know, but hey, that happens a couple times you'll quit it. And the fires thing, its hard to do, really hard. Atleast when using surge protectors.
