The update is on the disc, so no you will not be able to play that game withyout upgrading, however you do not need to go online to update if that's why you don't want to. If you don't want to as you are hoping for a crack sometime soon, I can only advise that you don't hold your breath

Why don't you want to update? There are so many new features since 2.01 like ingame XMB and such. And to answer your question no you cannot to my knowledge do that because certain games require a minimum firmware version, which is why its included on the disk. In this case its likely for the play your own music ingame feature.

Yes i know. I have 2 other PS3's Ive had from launch. Know all the features they have been updated along the way. I have my reasons for keeping this at the firmware and away from internet connection. I was told there is a program oyu can download calle UPDATE BLOCKER for PS3. you put it on a mem duo stick and insert it in the card reader [all my consoles are the good 60GB launch models].You then launch the game and it alllows you to play the game without update firmware on console.. Has anyone heard of this and where I can find it please? Regards Natasha.

I beleive the one you are talking about only works for when you want to play a game online with a lower firmware, but not to get a game to play on a lower firmware than the game requires.

There is only one reason to keep her firmware low is for the BD Java Homebrew,or she thinks that this firmware is going to be hacked,i personaly dont think that the PS3 will be circumvented via firmware, but i have been wrong in the past.
As for a method to by pass firmware updates,as canuckerz said, its only to play games online, there is defiantly not one that you put on a memory stick to by pass essential game updates.
You have two other PS3's so why bother worrying about playing games on this one.

Hello. The reason is I have my profile [NAME],along with my 2 daughters and my sons profiles on there. A lot of these games are hard to finish and unlock all content,[cars, weapons, clothes etc],and finish game 100%. I am good at them. I finish the game and copy it to my son and daughters profile so they can play with their girlfriends/friends/boyfriends when they visit. YOU CANNOT COPY AFTER A FEW MORE UPDATED FIRMWARE PAST THIS. [I found out the hard way when I tried on last game and found that all gamesaves now cannot be copied to other profiles on the console.as a gamerchic I can tell you now I HATE TROPHY SYSTEM AND DONT CARE ABOUT IT. I was informed that the UPDATE BLOCKER was here as this is the website he directed me to. I dont want to say too much but the businessman that I purchased this console off works on all three main consoles. I cannot find the software and am wondering if I have been duped. My gamesaves on this console are for my family only and wont be shared off console. Also this console will never be attached to the internet [ i fixed that...blanking plate over ethernet port] so gamesaves will not be played online. So there shouldnt be any issues with illegal shannigans etc. Can anybody help me please. Regards Natasha.

It sounds as if the console is stolen, thats your business, not mine, but the business man you bought it of is an idiot and you indeed have been duped.
You can update the consoles firmware without going on the internet with that console.

No he bought 2 consoles launch day. he played one online most of the time and has now been updated to latest firmware. The other console was his spare and only used a couple of times, hence only fimware 2.01. I had been phoning around/searching internet for console with no or very early update only for the reasons above. He decided to sell it to me as it was just gathering dust. He had no use for it and being in the business could be able to get another 60GB later if he wished [but would have been updated/not a problem to him]. No not stolen honey. Regards Natasha.

I apologize for assuming that it was stolen, but im afraid the only way to play games that need an update,is to actually update the console.
I really cant understand why you are having problems with game save though,a game save from 2.10 should work in 2.76.
If you are worried about being forced to update by connecting your console to the net, dont be,you can bypass that with PS3 Proxy and be able to play online, without updating.

you are right any save will work on any firmware but if she has updated the game on the console that's connected to the internet the game save wont work on the other console where the game hasn't been updated.
eg. X game has v1.2 and you try use that game save on another console where the game is still v1.1
anyway here is a link to a ps3 proxy and tutorial on how to use it.
