Hitachi won't play unlock disk ver 79FL

I've tried following every tutorial I find, and I'm having no luck.

I'm using the latest version of jungle flasher, and I'm able to get my drive into mode B. From that point, any time I try to run the unlock disk, my computer freezes, or the program shuts down, something of that nature.

The drive is able to be seen on my computer, so that isn't an issue as far as I know.

I've been able to get every other type of drive flashed, but for some reason no matter what tutorial I follow or what else I try, I can't get past this point.

Any help or advice?

I at least think I''ve made it to mode B, the computer suddenly detects the drive, though I'm not sure if that can occur without being in mode b.

The 79 unlock cd can be kinda tricky. Put the drive in modeB first, then do the unlck 79 command with the cd. Take it off automatic if you must. You'll know when it works when it ejects the CD on it's own.

Tried a few times. At one point I though it had worked randomly, but I ended up freezing again.

What occurs is that when I go to run the cd, whether under manual or automatic, the computer basically freezes, and remains that way until I turn the drive back off, taking it out of mode B. Jungle Flasher comes off non responsive, and though the drive shows in my computer, I can't do anything with it.

Are you using a VIA? If so, try the drivers I posted in the BENQ 1.6 0800 FW thread. They're the 5.20a drivers and should work.

Also of note, I never could get JF to dump a 79. I got it into modeB and unlocked, then use FW toolbox 4.8 to dump it. Then used JF to flash it. I think I had to use the Ram Upload and ASPI instead of PORT/IO
