HDTV, Blu-ray ownership keeps rising

article published on 1 June, 2009

HDTV ownership increased 73 percent over the 12 months ended February, says new Nielsen figures, reflecting the continuing falling prices in the sets. The overall growth also "fueled" growth in Blu-ray players and Blu-ray titles, says the report. Last February, 19 percent of U.S. households had one HDTV and that number has now jumped to 33 percent. Is the 230 million for blu-ray movies alone or does it include players?
It would be realistic for DVD spending to fall, but it's not only because of Blu-ray, Online services contributed a great deal.

I've mostly only bought favorite on Blu-ray which I don't mind watching once or twice a year.

I find that hard to believe. In my area the sales figures for sd sets are through the roof. And with the new sd models coming out soon those figures have nowhere to go but up. [/sarcasm]

I have 4 HDTVs now, even a lil' 19" LCD in the kitchen, and sooner or later a Plasma or something for the family room once the projection TV dies... It's like one of the fist few HDTVs that came out, displays only in 720i and 1080i and no digital tuner :(

I've got a 26" LCD and a 46" plasma. Next is a 32" for the bedroom and I'll use the 26" as a PC monitor. Unfortunately I haven't been contributing to the rise in blu ray sales :P I've only bought 3 blu ray movies used. But I've purchased 44 HD DVD movies at an average cost of $3.26 each, including shipping.

I have a PS3 on a 42" LCD and I only have 1 Blu-Ray movie and I didn't buy it myself... It's really nice but who buys movies these days :P

I think sales of Blu-Ray players will really pick up when BR media and writers are cheaper.
